Got a letter from BMW re EGR cooler

Seems that they have extended the warranty on the EGR cooler to ten years/unlimited miles based on BMW's recorded first in-service date. As I own a 2015 I'm happy.

I got the same letter today. My interpretation is that even if you've had the recall inspection done and no replacement was required, you now have a 10yr warranty on the part.

Is this is the same thing as the previous EGR one, just a "new" one w/o mileage limits?

According to informed delivery, my letter is probably sitting there. I was hoping it was xfer case and not another e46 airbag one, but I bet it is the EGR one.

Both 2017 X5d and 2018 328d got extension letters. Good news, given how persistent EGR cooler leaks are on our cars.

WOW, I'll be checking my mail shortly. I had the recall inspection done last year and no replacement was required.

Edit: My letter came as well. Hopefully we won't need the EGR replaced but if we do, at least we have peace of mind it'll be covered for a while.

The way I read it, it's 10 years from the date of manufacture. Do you agree?

The letter says 10 years from the "in service" date, which is the day the first owner bought/took ownership of it.
