Got the car back! Fully Forged CP Carrillo Rotating Assembly, MHI Big Turbo and FBO!

Car is back on the road finally. Fully forged CP Carrillo rotating assembly, new head, MHI big turbo and full bolt on, all thanks to Miami Engines 🙏🏼

The car is still on the stock tune though since the engine builder said I can’t take it over 4,000 rpm for 500 miles. The car feels and runs strong but it definitely feels like a caged animal wanting to be unleashed lol. Will be going the custom tune route so if anyone has any tuner recommendations I would really appreciate it. Right now I’m in between Navardi and Cary Jordan, but I have a couple little things I wanna add to the car (B58TU and Snow meth kit) before I get it tuned so it’ll be stock boost for a little bit. Here is a little video I took a few days ago just cruising around, feathering the gas gives off a nice little flutter, I kinda like it

Can you tell us exactly what they did to the motor? Is it a 4 or 6 cylinder? What was your total cost?

Motor is the 4 cylinder N20. I’m not entirely sure what was done to the block itself, although I believe the bottom of the cylinder liners were notched in order to fit the bigger rods. CP Carrillo pistons and rods were used, along with heavy duty wrist pins, calico coated bearings and ARP 2000 rod bolts. The motor itself was $3,900 + $1,850 for the entire forged rotating assembly. Labor for everything including the motor swap was $3,000. There were some other miscellaneous expenses but they were more maintenance than anything else (new radiator, expansion tank, camshaft position sensor, oil pump etc). The shop was extremely helpful and kept me in the loop throughout the entire build, highly recommended if you’re looking to do the same!

Here are some pictures of the engine when it was being built…

What is the estimated power capabilities of the work? $9k plus the cost of a custom tune seems like a tremendous amount of coin to drop on a 4cylinder engine without knowing exactly what was done or what numbers you can expect to see from it.

+1. Love the work but that's really cost prohibitive and would make more sense on a more powerful motor, no?

Well, truth is I was just looking to rebuild the motor after a timing chain failure took it out. The car is my daily, it’s paid off and it’s already got more money in it than it’s worth, so it kind of made no sense to sell it for a loss and jump into something else. The idea to forge it was an afterthought, once I spoke to the engine builder he kinda sold me on the idea of forging it, since it was only an extra $1850 to do so. I did have plans to tune it and up the boost down the road so I figured why not make it stronger for peace of mind when I was already spending that much money.

The engine is capable of supporting around 500rwhp safely if I had a turbo and fuel system that could push it that far. Beyond that since it is an open deck block it would have to be converted to closed deck in order to avoid cylinder wobble at those power levels. But I’m good with it, just looking for a fun daily street car. For all out race I have my built procharged mustang lol.

This makes more sense lol.. I thought you paid $9k just because you wanted to have a forged motor. That makes NO sense. But interested to see what can be pushed.

Yeah that would not have made much sense lol. Just really wanted the car back after the timing chain failure, didn’t want to sell it, and fell into the forged deal. But it should be a fun car!

Sounds like a really cool build! Would love to see some videos of the car running and doing pulls once you're throwing some boost at it
