Wheel damaged. Road debris or defect

My car is two years and and has roughly 4K miles. Today while washing I noticed the damaged shown below on one of the factory wheels. I don't recall hitting anything. Looking at the wheel there is no curb rash. What could've happened here ?

Something hit the wheel, that does not look like a defect.

Agree it isn't a defect. Something hard contacted the wheel and left straight scratch marks through the middle of the damage area.
