N20 Water Pump Recall... Any update for 2025?

Hello all,

As of today February 17 2025. It's been just over 6 months since BMW issued safety recall 24V-608 for coolant pumps in 2012 - 2018 N20 equipped BMWs.

Has anyone heard anything about when these repairs will actually begin? Last I heard 90 days ago was the recall was still restricted on the dealer level do to parts availability. The only progress happening was refunds for previously customer paid water pump replacements.

Has anybody else gather any additional or different info from their local BMW service center?

Just got my letter today to schedule an appointment. Now I just need to figure out the criteria required to replace the entire water pump and not just install that shield.

My guess is that they'll check the connector for corrosion and if there is any they'll replace the pump.

Interesting how the 20i (and xi) models aren't covered. Must be a different manufacturer than Pierburg who makes the 28i pumps.

Coincidentally, mine just failed at 176k miles and the connector showed no sign of corrosion.

Unless the plug is angled differently to the 28i variant to avoid any drips from the PCV valve.

I don't believe it's angled any different but the plug itself is a different shape which could play a factor, possibly.

I went with Saleri for replacement, so far so good.

28i models use a higher output pump with a square connector and 20i models have a rectangular connector (as pictured above). Angle of the plug and the pump housing appear identical between both models.
