Adaptive Cruise Control Retrofit?
Hi guys,
I'm interested in retrofitting ACC to my 2013 328. I've done a search but only come up with DCC retrofits. Besides adding the new control panel to the left of the steering wheel what else would I need in order to accomplish this? I've already got PDC, DCC, and surround view on the car if that helps. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Dino |

There's a write-up on here somewhere if you search. Basically, it's a nightmare. You have to buy the sensor, a different brake cylinder of some kind, additional brake wiring for the automatic braking, and I'm sure some other pieces. From what I understand, not worth it (price and work wise).

I'm curious about the plug/splice pictured here though. I suspect it'd be connecting the ACC plug in the new ACC+PDC harness to the ICM but I'm not sure. But then looking at the picture it's on the left front side of the bumper. I thought it'd be on the front right fender liner area. What am I missing here? |

You are correct, the ACC connector from the ACC+PDC wiring harness (in the front bumper cover) is on the passenger side of the vehicle in the same location of the PDC connector. The picture you attached may be from a UK vehicle or the image is mirrored). I recently completed my ACC retrofit and discovered it is one of the retrofits that I use regularly. Larry

Thanks Larry. I have so many questions but the most prominent is about the ICM swap. I'm actually contemplating swapping out the ICM with a used 'high' unit but I'm not sure if that's the smart thing to do when it comes to ICMs. For example, I don't know what happens to an ICM when the air bags get deployed - does the ICM permanently register this event and it can't be erased/reused anymore?
Have you done the retrofit yourself or through a dealer/specialist? |

I also read about the possibility of the ICM permanently registering an airbag deployment event but I do not know if this information is factual or speculation. I do not know the answer to this question. In general, it is hit-n-miss when purchasing used parts for a retrofit but that is part of the fun/challenge. Yes, I retrofitted ACC myself, as well as most of the items in my signature. I was lucky enough to find a near-complete kit (ACC radar, ICM-High, ABS pump/DSC and ACC+front PDC wiring harness all from the same donor vehicle) on ebay that ended up being fully functional. The most challenging aspect of this retrofit for me was identifying the correct part numbers for and locating a used ABS pump/DSC assembly. All the Best, Larry

- DXC Pulse generators (front & rear). If you already have Park Assistant, you already have the front DXC Pulse generators. ACC will work without upgrading the rear DXC generators. Since I had already upgraded the front DXC pulse generators with my Park Assistant retrofit, I initially did not upgrade the rears but I eventually decided to do so for completeness. - wiring harness to connect the ACC+ PDC wiring harness to the ICM. I built my own wiring harness (twisted pair wire, repair pins, connector housing). - bracket to mount the ACC radar (different brackets depending on bumper/model) - lower ACC grill Regarding the brake hard-lines, based on my research, only the front hard lines to the calipers are different part numbers for my vehicle. How the lines differ, I do not know. I reached out to the OP (Russian) that published the DIY referenced in an earlier post. He chose not to replace his hard lines and performed numerous tests under different driving and environmental conditions and "all worked perfectly". For my retrofit, the ACC ABS pump/DSC was plug-n-play i.e bolted up to the factory hard lines without any modifications. I have not experienced any issues i.e no leaks, no ruptures, no material change in brake performance and pedal feel, no warnings or error messages. I may eventually replace the front brake hard-lines for completeness but I do not feel my current setup is unsafe. I believe the flex lines (same parts for ACC and non-ACC) would rupture well before the hard-lines. Larry

Hi Everybody
I Have a question: It seems that adaptive msport suspension and ACC are not working toghether. As i See ICM High has ACC but doesn't support Msport adaptive suspension. Is right? |

What car do you have? I have adaptive suspension on my 435 so when I retrofit ACC I needed to find an ICM that from a car that had adaptive suspension as well as ACC. I used realoem to determine which ICM part numbers had both features.

I just did this on my car so if anyone has some questions let me know. Some notes:
I did this over three days Day 1- sensor+bracket+bumper harness+ grille Day 2- icm+ wire extension Day 3- abs+ wheel sensors + coding I had to wire up a harness from the end of the bumper harness in the fender to the icm- the Russian walkthrough doesn’t note that. I don’t have kafas so this does work with non kafas cars This also gave my car fcw in addition to acc. |

I’m interested in doing this!
Not sure what parts I may need but my car is a 2019 440 Gc I already have active blind spot detection, side and top view cameras, speed limit info (everything listed in the drivers assistance plus package except Active Driving Assistant). Have the drivers assistance package and parking assist. My car also has collision warning so if I have the sensors, radars, etc what else would I need? Was hoping it was just a coding issue or maybe a part are two. Any advice/help would be appreciated! Thanks |
