How about this one? Looks to tick the right boxes on paper which is no guarantee of course:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001570261285.html Which is the real official store though? |

I'm ready to buy the bimmertech unit for peace of mind. But do guys know anything about the AUX input coding they say is required? (For my car, at least) ... I don't have an AUX input, so I get that it needs to be coded in.
Can this be done using the bimmercode app and bluetooth dongle? It's already a pricey unit so it'd be nice to save that extra $100 USD |

The issue is that ID6 doesn't have a front aux input enabled (not a 3.5 aux, it's an aux input on the big connector at the back of the unit). Normally these units use that input to transfer the sound to the headunit. As I mentioned, in our HUs this is not configured on and I guess bimmertech enable it on the unit directly. I had a cable already so skipped that option but did get the coding one just in case. I will ask them if it's possible to do it using bimmercode because my garage doesn't have cell or WiFi coverage for them to do it remotely. I think they are away at the moment due to Thanksgiving so we'll see how it goes.
One thing I forgot to ask them before I made the purchase (too excited) was if the touchscreen functionality is retained at least on the iDrive side, if not on AA as well. I'm really hoping for the latter, will settle for the former but it will be a dealbreaker if neither apply. |

no touch on aa/carplay, oem works as before (touch or non touch dependin on oem screen)
I already have aux enabled, even my current antroid headunit works without any coding. Don't you have "aux" setting in idrive at all? |

Good to know that the idrive touch still works, I am not losing any functionality then.
I don't have any Aux setting in the menu, no. Do you have an aux port in the armrest? Or just the "front" aux which basically means at the back of the headunit directly? |

It could be. Hardware is manufactured in china or asia for sure like 99% of other devices. Then the hardware could be the same (or sort of) of andream or not, but it differs for software and support. |

Ah ok, I wonder if it's mutually exclusive with certain options. For example I have the wireless charging/wifi option, do you have that too?
Incidentally, I took a look at Bimmercode's expert mode settings under Headunit and it looks like there are two places where aux is present: 3000 HMI (4 parameters) 3001 EXBOX (4 parameters) I'll read the config from my car later on to see how it's configured. |

This whole thing is getting so complicated that I'm considering buying an iPhone mini to live in the wireless changer in my console so I can just use Carplay. The downside is that I want to add a front camera and would need an MMI.

I had similar thoughts but I prefer Android Auto to Carplay so decided to persevere as much as possible.
Perhaps we should rename the thread to Bimmertech MMI? Anyway, I was too anxious to get it installed so as soon as I finished work I popped down to the car. I spent almost three hours taking the interior apart (most of that was because I had to drop the glovebox) to remove the crappy interface I had previously, put everything together and...it doesn't work. The iDrive side (passthrough) works fine but the interface side just shows a blank screen, pictures below for reference. Dip switches were pre-set, connections are all good so I am not sure what's wrong. I've sent a message to Bimmertech to see what's what, hopefully they can troubleshoot it. I am hoping it's not a duff module. I was so pissed off that I forgot to check the Aux configuration, sorry gents. I'll take a look tomorrow. |
