Any NEGATIVES of a open box intake?
I know I know. Hot air gets sucked in. But does this TRULY cause a loss in power? I don't care about gains, I just don't want the car to run like crap. I had a bad experience with a aFe intake on my 325i E90 but the sound on the B58 from Agency is so beautiful. I am really just looking for sound with no power loss

Higher IATs
Higher IATs lead to timing corrections and is a path to the dark side |

It is to be avoided, if possible. This said, "Cold climate" equipped BMWs suck air from the engine bay directly and not from the fender.

I never understood the hype for intake noise. Much prefer the sound from a downpipe or blow off valve.

Have you thought about the MST intake?
Not fully enclosed like an AFE, but ithere is more of a heat shield compared to the AP. I recall hearing that is isn’t quite as loud as the AP, but all the turbo spool and diverter valve noises are still very much present . |

My wife took my 435i out when I first installed the injen intake and she said there was something wrong with my car!!! She said it made a weird noise. Hahaha. I told her it was supposed to. Plus it just looks cool. |

One variant is left open in the engine bay, the other has 2-3 more air duct parts connecting it to the opening in the bumper. There have been a few threads on that topic here. I have been contemplating to add the few plastic parts on mine and connect it but not sure how much disassembling is needed to get access. People here have done it.

I'm running the oem bottom half with a bms on my b58 with the upgraded pipe. It removes several baffles and my logs look very nice. It's cold out so no temp issues. Maybe an issue in summer time, we'll see.

Maybe so, though even using realOEM for a European build I can't find said parts. If it exists I don't see it being of much use below the Arctic Circle.

Generally speaking it won't run like crap. But you will be leaving performance on the table. usually I see it causing a problem when pushing hybrid turbos, then IATs spike and cause significant issues.

I'm personally not a fan of the intake sound but I accepted it as I had no choice with the Eventuri. Between the DP and MPPSK exhaust you really can't hear the swoosh anyway.
Absolutely love this model for the B58, it included a CF air scoop which assists with drawing cold air more efficiently through that channel in the rear headlight area.

https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1765289 I was able to get my IATs with 5 degrees F of ambient with both stock intake and CTS (with is an open filter underhood) - both with a heat wrapped CP. I have always maintained that drawing hotter air in at the intake is eventually going to impact IATs post-IC, but that all depends on the size/efficiency of your IC (heat transfer from air to IC) and in the case of a B58 the size/efficiency of the heat exchange (heat transfer from IC water to ambient). That being said there may not be an immediate impact on IATs post-IC when you switch intake setups if your IC is able to "handle" a slightly higher starting temperature at the intake, since the majority of the heat is generated from the turbo compressing the air. |

Yep but can't remember where. You can install the pipe and snorkel from the engine bay after removing the intake. You may need to remove the radiator bracket for access. Then you remove the kidney grille to install the grille to remove the blockoff and install the intake grille.
