Vanos failing...

So i got the typical Vanos symptoms, no power below 3000 rpm for quite sometime... haven't noticed any noises yet but i will check again in the morning during cold start.

but my question is.. is it dangerous to be driving a car with a failing vanos system?

Cheers in advance !!!

First symptoms of my failed timing chain guides were Vanos malfunctions--it would be worth checking. There are a number of relevant posts elsewhere. Good Luck!

Mine failed at 89,500. While tearing things apart to replace chains and guides, local indy shop called today that they found a broken bolt head from chain guide that had worn into block, and now engine is total loss, $9500 to replace.

No shit... sorry to hear!

Id want to see proof of that. Not saying they are BS'ing you. Just the first Ive heard of that and Id genuinely want to see it.

What are your plans? You can get a brand new engine from Germany for $6k or even a race engine from Steve Dinan for $8k or so.

Yes, the shop made a video and some stills, including of the broken bolt. Talking with BMWNA about the issue, to see if they will take responsibility.
