Best Third-Party Extended Warranty?!
Just ordered 2016 BMW 328i!!
When should I purchase extended warranty? Who's the best third-party? I think third party can make better/longer offers AND cheaper?! Any thoughts? THANKS!

The newer/lower mileage the car is, the cheaper the warranty tends to be. If you know you're going to keep the car long term, buy it now for a lower price.
As I've said in other threads, if you're not doing a BMW branded warranty, the only companies I would consider are: Fidelity The Warranty Group EFG These will be cheaper than OEM, but are not the cheapest out there. I deal with warranty companies for work every day, and these are the only three I'd consider buying myself. You want Platinum coverage as well- anything less is setting yourself up for an issue down the line.

Thanks JVBFTW.
And that is a good option, Pretender - I've considered it... Of course, there's always the fear, "what if repairs do end up costing more?!!" mdavis12 - I was thinking of: - USAA - Warranty Direct I thought I heard bad things about Fidelity?

I used twice Warranty Direct. On my E46 330i I about broke even, on my E92 335 I definitely took advantage of the warranty. In both cases I chose full coverage but with high deductible, to keep the cost low.
They often try not to approve stuff even with the best coverage, but with a more persistent service advisor they eventually covered virtually everything. Once my car was at the dealer for quite some time (two weeks or more I think) when they were figuring things up. I didn't mind since meanwhile I was driving a loaner. If I went to an independent mechanic, I would be screwed, though, so once you have coverage make sure you go to the dealer and get a loaner. |

I had EasyCare TotalCare on my 07 E90 328i. Paid $1861 for it and two different stealerships performed over $13K worth of work on three different instances.
As far as I know only about $2,500 worth of it was legit as they had to replace the ABS unit. The rest of it, was all dealer BS in my opinion, but they scare you with all that could go wrong and I let them do the work because EasyCare covered all of it and I only paid $100 deductible for each visit. Trying to avoid both those dealerships now with the 340i, but the one I'm taking it to now isn't much better based on my very recent visit...Oh well! Anything where they aren't inspecting the vehicle and requiring pre-existing conditions to be repaired prior to being eligible for the warranty is just asking for trouble. Hard to control your loss ratios as a warranty company when you leave the door open to paying for expensive repairs that probably shouldn't have been covered. If the company gets upside-down on claims, and the owners high tail it out of the country with the rest of the premiums, and they didn't have a Contractual Liability Insurance Policy backing up what they write, you're kinda SOL. It doesn't happen these days as much as it used to, but it still could happen. Thats a big part of the reason I'd go with the companies I listed; they've all been around a long time, inspect the car first, and have the CLIP backing up the policy. As for the Credit Union warranties they tend to be cut rate. No OEM parts, have a deductible, take longer to inspect the vehicle, don't provide a rental until the inspection is done and the claim approved, etc. You really do get what you pay for on a warranty.

You'll hear bad things about every warranty company. Typically though those complaints are from people who didn't read the contract/don't understand what is/isn't covered, and opted for a Bronze/Sliver/Gold plan instead of a Platinum.

It is well worth the effort to email Jeff Steel at Passport BMW and get a competitive quote on a real BMW Extended Warranty plan Gold or Platinum. I purchased a 2016 328D two weeks ago and shopped the warranty at four different dealers in Texas, California, and Maryland. Two thumbs up for Jeff Steel.

Many BMW Dealers insist rates cannot be discounted in Florida as per a State Law. State of Florida insists that is incorrect, but Dealers still don't believe them. There is talk in state law of rebates, but that appears to be to the Dealer, not discounts to Customer. Regardless, many Dealers have heard the myth for years and so accept it as fact. |

I received the following from BMW of Mt Laurel after I asked for their best price. It doesn't seem competitive to me.
"My name is Katie from BMW of Mt Laurel. Below is pricing for the three tiers of extended warranties for an additional two years and 50,000 miles. The maintenance program is $2,095. Platinum $3,410 Gold $3,070 Powertrain Plus $2,150"

Hey Kabrich, got a little update regarding the warranty. I contacted Jeff Steel at Passport BMW a couple weeks back and got a quote significantly lower than anywhere in FL(he asked me not to publicly disclose it in the form). So, I happened to be in VA this week for work so i took the train ride to MD and meet with Jeff in person to validate the communication we had via email. All i have to say is Jeff is a great guy and very attentive, the transaction went very smooth and the documents were submitted right there and then. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for an extended warranty from BMW to contact Jeff it is definitely worth it.
