I’m not going to voraciously argue this, because I can see the point that wall to wall coverage might’ve been OTT - i really can. I was most disappointed to see Fridays episode of Neighbours cancelled, the Masterchef final taken off the menu and Saturday’s serving of Homes under the Hammer (might’ve been a repeat?) moved, to name but a few. I get it.
But if I need to turn to a streaming platform or switch off the radio and open my Spotify app for a couple of days so that I’m ‘forced’ to reflect on the passing of an historic figure, then I’m personally fine with that. Life will go on, rolling coverage and mourning will wane. After all, it’s not as if we only have 4 TV channels like the 80’s - we have a choice to switch over or, shock, get out of the house for a bit of fresh air. People love to complain - it’s their prerogative. |

As ever, the media of hysteria push the 'oh look, prince Philip has said another thing he shouldn't have', or 'oh, he was a Greek immigrant' etc without actually paying any attention at the man behind the statements or questions. This then gives rise to people saying 'who cares'. I'll admit I was rather naive to what he'd done in his life, Duke of Edinburgh aside, but reading an article by Philip Eade on the BBC site about his early life actually made me interested to learn more so I've just ordered the book Philip wrote about him. Now I know I enjoy reading about history, and understanding the past, but it strikes me that a lot more people could probably do with educating themselves about what the Royal Family actually do. Actually, they could probably just do with educating themselves on history full stop! But regardless, I'd rather hold the royal family in high regard than the tossers that reality TV creates and masses revere!
Philip seems like he was quite an incredible person, as is the Queen, for all that they have done to support people, organisations and causes over the years. The Duke of Edinburgh scheme is one small thing in a list of many, including being involved in the design of the original Land Rover (a good achievement but definitely low down the list of good causes). He had not one drop of Greek blood in him he was of Danish and German decent (not that it matters either way) and was like his wife a great great grandchild of Queen Victoria.
A remarkable life from start to finish and he knew what it was like to be alone with no routes or family and made a mighty fist of it, he'd been through it and made something of himself hence his let's get on with it view of the world, he was making speeches at the UN on climate change and protecting the environment long before a certain girl did and yet people just refer to his "gaffs". A moderniser who fought the real snobby royals like the queen mother (who wasn't even royal by birth unlike the DoE) and he carved a role out whilst being asked to walk one step behind the crown. RIP.

People do love to complain and be offended as noted 100k bothered to write to the BBC and yet homes under the hammer is still on repeat x 10000. I do wonder how many are genuine or duplicates from republicans. I watched a little bit of the coverage which was ample on most channels had enough and then did something else and forgot about it. East Enders and masterchef were rescheduled, depressing soap and cooking programme is rescheduled - sounds like a bonus to me
If you want a example of how fecked up some can be. England vs Croatia World Cup 2018, extra time. An event we see once a generation! 26 Million watching.... Thousands complain to ITV that love island is being delayed. That is why I don't take any viewers complaints seriously. Defies belief |

And with even just a basic smart TV having 100 channels and Netflix/YT/Disney/Prime/SKY etc...(the list is endless) there was no need for anyone to "suffer" the coverage.
I watched an hour of the news and then the ITV doc programme about his life and that was it, no need to complain just tune out and do/watch something else, I thought everyone's lives were so "busy" these days they wouldn't have had time to notice or care...
