Does the B58 440i have Active Sound?

Trying to solve a debate here. To my ears, there is definitely some ASD coming through the speakers. Some posters have referenced coding guides in N55 models mostly.

Does anyone have any proof or instructions to disable the ASD on B58 4 series cars?

Proof is connecting via Esys and seeing the module there. Your best bet is going to be checking with the F30 guys on disabling. I love the sound on my 340 and have no desire to change it so I haven't messed with it.

I checked esys on my 340, and it shows the ASD module, but it has no engine assigned to it.

So I have no idea if it's playing engine sounds.

Yes it does. At the same time I can't understand why people hate on it so much. Literally doesn't make the car any different with or without it

I love the sound my 340 has. Even if it's potentially 1/2 fake.

I have no complaints at all.

The 340i definitely has ASD, and I have turned it off.

yes, the 340i has active sound, but I never turned it off. It's actually not that intrusive and annoying. The F8X active sound however... so annoying.

Can you switch it off via the iDrive settings or can it only be done by coding?

Coding only.

The 3/440i Active Sound sounds OK, but it gives a false sense of the car. If you are a purist who can hear an engine and tell what gear you are in and at what RPM, you want it off. Overrun is where it gets particularly overbearing and annoying.

Again, it isn't as intrusive in the F8X, but as soon as I coded mine off it was 100x better.

Plus, do you really want the equivalent of a bicycle with a playing card in the spokes on your $50k sports sedan?

Did this feature start with the 340? Did the prior 335 have it?

I can't believe BMW, or any car manufacturer would have the exhaust note go through speakers.

Anyone know if it is a simulation or the actual engine/exhaust note just amplified!? If it's the latter I won't be too bothered as I often open the windows in my Cayman so I can hear the exhaust note better! If, however, it is an artificial simulation then my question would be why? when the car has a great sounding engine & exhaust note anyway!! I also think it strange that the option to alter volume or even turn it off isn't available via the settings!

From what I understand it is not just an amplification of your real engine sounds. It's entirely artificial. I have no idea why they would implement this. It's been a travesty since day 1 and BMW isn't the only one doing it. It also seems strange that the M3/4 have even MORE sound coming out of the speakers even while already sounding way more aggressive than the 3/4 series. In fact, even with the MPE installed on my M3, Active Sound is not disabled. Weird.

Does seem weird indeed, particularly as all the road tests I'm reading on the 340i say how wonderful it sounds.... are they describing the 'actual' sound from outside the car, or the simulated sound inside the car? I will be able to make up my own mind & comment further when I get mine!! Having said that I have seen some vids of it on the track and what the camera mic is picking up sounds pretty good to me.... so why the simulation?

I have no idea. I will say again that ASD was less noticeable on my 340i than my M3 to the point where I wasn't even sure I had ASD at the time.

It is odd. Porsche amplifies engine sounds and pipes it into the speakers, Ford uses a tube on their mustang to pipe sound into the cabin.

My 340 sounds great (even without the fake sound), so I'm confused as well. I think it's mainly used to fill in the overrun.

My Cayman doesn't have any sound piped in, but maybe that's because the engine is pretty much in the cabin!!
