Check engine light - help!

I have a 2014 328d xdrive with 57,000 miles. Recently, the check engine light came on (solid, no blinking). There has been no noticeable change in performance of the vehicle and idrive does not show any issues.

Using Carly, I was able to narrow the issue down to the following code:

Category: Selective Catalyst Reduction
Fault Code: 80518A
Fault Explanation: Dosierleitungsheizung, Control: Open circuit (DTC UHCPLOLDurCtl, Pin 6)

According to Google, Dosierleitungs heizung translates to "metering, heating"

I found this thread that references the same code, but I'm struggling to find more information to help me fix the project.

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho....php?t=1185825

If I clear the code, it returns within a couple minutes of driving.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Williamset

It looks as though the dude on bimmerfest checked the resistance on the metering line module and since the voltage was off replaced the module and CEL went away.

Looks like it's located under the car just before the cat in the diagram above.

Thanks so much for the response. Do you think this would be covered under the federal 7 yr/70k mile emissions warranty found in the user manual?

The "metering unit, SCR" and many other SCR related items are on the list...https://www.bmwusa.com/content/dam/b..._5_7Series.pdf

Obviously, dealer will probably know best, but I want to be well armed with information as they don't work on many diesels.

Hi all, I also have an emissions related CEL. I took my 2014 328d to the dealer and they quoted me $1200 to replace the faulty NOx sensor. Said it’s not covered under the warranty. I also thought there was a 70k/7 year emissions warranty.

Any advice or does the warranty not cover the emissions sensors?

Good afternoon guys, I have a 2015 328d xdrive Wagon with 34k still under warranty. I have CEL and same code 80518A which keeps reappearing after clearing. I would appreciate any additional follow up info as how you guys made out in addressing with your respective Dealers? Thanks

Dealer said the metering line was faulty. The work order shows part 16-19-7-260-228 was replaced. Total cost for the work was $652 and the car has been operating fine for 5+ days.

It was not a covered under the federal emissions warranty (I'm in Ohio fwiw).

Not sure how hard the work would've been to do myself...I haven't been able to find a write-up.

For $652 the "metering line" must be the entire sensor I would think? Anyone ever DIY one of these?
