If you folded them manually you will need to fold them out manually, or they will fold out at 20mph automatically. If you folded them from the fob they will fold out when you unlock the car.

I don't use mine, ever. If I parked on the street, I would fold them in, but I have no use for the folding ones. But that's me.

Only folding I do is after a car wash as they seem to hold a gallon of water, and folding them dumps it out.

As soon as the car door is unlocked the mirrors fold down. But you can open the hatchback or boot without them folding open.

U.S. cars do not fold the side mirrors in while holding the lock key. I tried a few times yesterday...nope. Has to be custom coded our here.

It's speed related here in US...5+mph or so they'll flip down......

That's a bit lame don't you think? So if you get out and shut the door and realise you've forgotten to fold the mirrors, you have to get back in and use the interior fold button?? I sure hope the UK cars get auto folding from the key fob! Are you sure you can't custom set this via the iDrive settings menu?

Not on USA cars.

Get them! I use them driving into my garage and at work in the parking garage. In my previous car, I hit my mirrors too many times to count.

I fold them when I'm parked in my garage or the street to minimize the chance of them getting clipped. The latest batch of C63's in the US didn't have them installed despite the order sheets having them. If you want justification for buying folding mirrors, check out that forum. It's apparently enough reason for some people to refuse accepting delivery of 6-month wait time custom orders.

Must admit I've never actually paid for powerfold mirrors, and never had any damage on roads or from vandals! ...but my last two cars came with them so I've got used to the benefits like the spaces in my works car park being so damn tight, and once parked it's a squeeze to get past any protruding mirrors!

Did you code this yourself? Other USA owners are saying it's not possible to have them close on locking the car!!

Edit: just noticed it's not an F30!!

That is idrive5. I do not know any code to tie to starting or stopping engine, but it is absolutely possible to code to (un)fold when (un)locking if vehicle has 430/431 power mirrors. There is a separate initiation delay for opening and closing that can be reduced or removed. Same hardware in USA and ECE countries.

Had mine coded (2016 330e). Now folds when I lock the car with my remote. I like to fold my mirrors when parking in a parking lot and when getting into my home garage. Works great. Interesting feature. If I use the button on the door handle, it locks the car but doesn't fold the mirrors. But if I use the remote, it both locks the car and folds the mirrors. But if I have used the remote, if I touch the door handle it both unlocks the door and unfolds the mirrors.

I love this feature, and its my first car to have them. Much easier to park the car in the 3rd smaller garage bay and avoid any potential issues in crowded parking lots. Also use it in car washes.

There is an initiation delay for opening and closing. If left as is, there is approximately 3 sec before mirrors and windows move.

If coded out, I find a firm CA press or press of keyFOB button initiates process. Personally, since keyFOB is physical button, CA initially appears to take slightly longer or require extra effort before it just becomes second nature.

Many BMW features are very particular. If you use driver's door button to fold mirrors, they will not auto-unfold when unlocking vehicle. But, every time you fold with either keyFOB or CA, they will.

I had mine coded so that they can closed with the key fob. I don't have the menu item to fold the mirrors in when locked. I wonder if this can be added on.

Same coding is used for windows and mirrors. Separate functions are used for comfort access and keyfob. You must have 430/431 power mirrors for them to work. Hu_NBT2 has code function for idrive selectable menu item.

Nope..not a custom setting in i_drive.
