Just bought a 2013 335i, should I keep my 2006 325i?

Just wanted to get some opinions here.

I put about 25k miles per year on my car. I have had my 2006 325i for about 4 years now. I bought it when I lost my job and had to turn in my company car. It had about 70k miles on it when I bought it. I have all preventive maintenance done when I get my oil changed. I had water pump, thermostat, all the normal stuff done to it over the last 100k miles and it's been rock solid and drives great. It's a 6MT with sport package and is still a lot of fun to drive.

I just bought a 2013 335i Sport Line with 6MT with 30k miles and absolutely love this car. I have been told several times that I should get a cheap Honda or something to drive for work to keep miles and maintenance lower on my 335i.

My wife would never go for me selling the 325i and then getting another car. So my thought was maybe keeping the 325i and running it into the ground while keeping the miles lower on my 335i. Drive the 335i on local trips and the 325i on longer trips. The wife, over time, might get used to that idea. Plus, I know I'm not going to get out of the 325i what I feel it's worth if I sell it.

Thoughts and/or opinions? Good idea? Bad idea? Just sell the 325i and put the miles on the 335i? I'm in a no win situation?

Personally, I would just keep the 335i and pay for maintenance on just one car.

I was in the same spot. Just daily the 335i while it's still new and fully enjoy it.

What does the wife drive? In our garage, we have 3 Bimmers: wife drives the 2016 F36 which is also our long trips vehicle, I drive the 2003 E46 as my daily driver, and use the 2001 X5 when needed to haul stuff. I would suggest that you keep the 325i as your daily, and let the wife drive the 2013 and use it on longer trips for driving comfort.

Wife drives a 2013 Expedition EL. She likes driving a bus to tote our three kids around. We normally drive it on long family trips and it works out quite well. Plenty of room for the kids.

I would mostly drive the 335 because I definitely want to enjoy it but when I'm driving 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 hours away I thought I'd put the miles on the 325. Maybe 5-7k a year on the 325.

While it may be tempting to baby the 335, I think you should just use that as your daily. It's not an M3 and it's not a garage queen. Just get out there and enjoy it

Keep the 325i, slowly restore it, and in several years it can be a first car for that oldest kid.

I agree with most people on here, use 335i as the daily and sell everything you don't need. Cheapest way to go and best value, less maintenance, less insurance etc.

Drive the 335, that's why you bought it, and it's not an exotic car. It will depreciate whether you drive it or not. Keep or sell the 325, your call.

I would sell the 325 asap. No use in keeping it. If I wanted a separate commuter car I'd lease a Volt

I'll probably keep the 325 through the winter and sell it in the Spring. I'll drive it on my long work trips and when the weather is bad (335 is rwd). I'd hate to wreck the new to me 335 in the snow when I could have been driving the 325.

By next winter the newness will have worn off.

If you have already done all maintenance, keep your e90. no use in going through the hassle of buying a cheap honda or whatever

I'd keep them both, but I am a car hoarder and love to have a choice of driving different cars depending on where I'm going, the weather, which one is the cleanest (or which one is sort of dirty if it's raining).

That's the thing, my 325 looks and runs great even with 170k miles. So why not take it on the long work road trips for work and drive the 335 when I'm more local? At least have the option. I would literally drive the 335 3-4 days during the work week and and on the weekends so I will definitely drive it. I think insurance may be a couple hundred extra dollars a year.

The other thing is the 325's KBB is only about $4,500.00 and that's probably on a good day. I just don't think I'm going to be able to get that out of it. I don't know, I guess I can put it up for sale and if I can't get a decent price for it I'll keep it and let my almost 14 year old daughter have it in a couple years.

Here's a pic of the 335 with the daughter and the 325 just for fun.

Oh decisions, decisions.

If you don't mind paying for extra insurance, i'd keep both until you feel like the 325i will need some big/ expensive maintenance to be done.

You can hold on to it and keep it for a "beater" Keep the maintenance up as long as it doesn't acquire a repair that's more than it's worth. When it comes time to get wheels for the daughter she can take it over or it still could be traded in on something else for her and probably get you a couple of grand worth on the trade. As long as it's still in good running condition it would make a good first car for her and give her a year or two to save for something else as that goes out to pasture.

I would always use the newer car for long trips, and the older one for commuting and short trips, but drive the new one on weekends and maybe once a week to work and back. It's going to be a balance between the cost of continued ownership of the 325 (insurance, maintenance, etc.) and wear and tear on the 335. I know someone with a 2006 325i that has over 200K miles on it and she still drives it back and forth to work.

Id keep both and drive the 325 whenever I wanted. I take care of my cars but I also like to enjoy the car for the hardworking money i spent on it so there is no time where i sacrifice not driving a car just i want to save miles or not getting it dirty or watever. There will be other cars when this one is end of life.

Enjoy your 335I. I drive 25K a year and love doing in it my 335I - bought new and have almost 83K miles. Highway miles are pretty easy on a car, so just drive it; much more reliable than your other car with 170K miles.

personal opinion but my dads e90 325 has been extremely reliable... only thing done has been water pump and oddly, a new gas pedal.

my e90 335 on the other hand was not reliable and my f30 335 is reliable compared to my e90, but not compared to my dad's 325.

thus, I'd keep the 325 for long trips if you have regular longer trips. and lets be honest.. whats the 325 even really worth at this point
