Sorry to hear about the GPS issues. How is the sound quality?

It’s not that bad, though a bit low (quite a big difference between radio and MMI volumes). I’ll try and code this stuff presented in this topic but I have HU_Entry so not sure I can.

They said that "The prior Carplay MMI also was not compatible with your vehicle. We might have [one] that's compatible with your vehicle but we won't know for sure until 60 days from now. "

Strange.. they basically told me I needed to purchase the retrofit 2017 NBT EVO ID6 Navigation system, price is $2499 shipped. Pass.
To be fair to bimmertech, the late 2012/early 2013 CIC has an unusual setup if you have a combox. The aux port runs back to the combox instead of the head unit, so you must plug the aux from CarPlay into the port in the arm rest. requires a different harness. maybe they're not supporting that because it would mean stocking 2 different wiring harnesses? who knows? there's literally no reason to spend $2500 on NBT EVO at this point. unichip, joyeauto, unique-ad, and I'm sure a few others have carplay/android auto solutions for $600 or less. Maybe even as low as $250-$300.

I tried installing the Bimmertech CarPlay MMI plus and I seemed to have followed everything in the tutorial from kies and bimmertech's new video but for some reason. My iDrive is gone and the screen is just lines and blurriness. I can see the iDrive is in the background cause the image changes as I rummage through with the touch controller.
But if I hold 8 or menu, CarPlay pops up clearly. I have no audio or mic apparently either. Dose anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

BImmertech should be sorting this issue out, simply reach out to them at support@bimmer-tech.net.

I installed the bimmer tech CarPlay MMI plus yesterday in my 2016 F10. I’ve experienced the same GPS lag and inaccurate positioning as you all. I’ve sent an email to bimmer tech support in hopes they can help fix this. I like the interface and the sound is good through my HK stock system. If the GPS is unusable there’s no point. I’ll share my experience

I installed this in my 2016 X5M today and I am having the exact same GPS issues as the post above. Opened a ticket with BimmerTech tonight.

Where does everybody route the USB cable for this?
Anybody try going for an OEM look instead of a cable just sticking out of some crevice?

UnknownBeing I ended up routing a lighting cable through one of the cup holders to this mount: https://joli.design

I used this post for instructions on how to get to the cup holders:
https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&postcount=210

That being said, it turns out that location has weak GPS signal and I'm looking for a good solution (I don't think it's the MMI Plus' fault, but wish it tied in to the car's GPS antenna).

BimmerTech has been pretty accommodating throughout the process. They are offering me a refund. They said they've seen other users with iphones experience issues. They think it's isolated to the iphone X range of devices but I've tried an iphone 8 and have the same issues.

If i stow the phone in the arm rest the GPS improves but still is hit or miss.

I don't know if the GPS issue impacts Androids

I'm pretty sure your cables are not well connected, I hope you already figured out this.

To those having GPS issues, by any chance are you the owner of iphone 8? If so then the bimmertech mmi plus is not the issue, iphone 8 is.
I've been using the bimmertech mmi plus with my old iphone SE and it works very very well.
I've swapped my iphone 8 twice and still same very poor localisation. Also reason why I did not notice that obvious issue on iphone 8 before is because I did not pay attention and with iphone being on a big screen this can't be ignored. I've now tested iphone 8 without plugging it onto the mmi and the GPS issue is there as well.

I get an LCI trim that has the hole for USB when your car is optioned with EBT. If you dig around on RealOEM, you can find the one that matches your interior. I had to modify the plug from the MMI for it to fit but it looks OEM. Unfortunately, I haven't had the same experience with the MMI so it'll likely come out since I use it for android auto and it's not that great of an experience.

I have dedicated an old iPhone SE to the car which I put permanently in the armrest (cable is going through the gearbox below the plastic ie hidden)
That way when entering the car nothing to plug!

What is wrong with the Android Auto experience? Have you tried turning on the New Android Auto UI in your phone settings?

I've tried it out. Its slightly better but the experience is still quite janky. The UI doesn't darken with lights coming on so at night, i have daytime maps which is just blinding. The sound quality is also quite bad and really muddy.

Plus Android Auto was really designed around touch interface so using the wheel to get around isn't the most intuitive.

With regards to dark mode this can be controlled through the Android Auto settings on the phone so that the phone controls or the MMI bo. I don't think the box has any way of knowing so I would try again with this set to phone controlled.

Not sure why your sound quality is poor. Can bluetooth be used instead?

MMI requires you to use AUX otherwise there's echo in phone calls so no dice really on using BT which is surprisingly better quality sound than whatever AUX input device they're using in this. It sounds like everything is underwater.

Dark mode doesn't work regardless of phone settings. Trust me, I've tried all the dev options and workarounds. It simply doesn't work. The box also should know when the car goes into night mode as android auto can autodim based on headlight settings.
