What did they reset ?

Had the car in the dealers for the last couple of days while they replaced a very damp headlamp. When I got it back, they appear to have reset something in software.

It's lost the couple of changes I'd coded (Stop/Start default to off, and radio turn off when opening the door). It had also lost all my shortcut button settings. GPS tracking was also disabled.

It retained my Bluetooth phone pairing, changes to the audio setup & driving modes. Recent journeys in the Nav were still there as well.

There's possibly other things I haven't noticed, but it seems strange it lost some stuff, but retained others. I would expect it to lose everything or nothing. Also no idea why they were dicking with software when it was only in to have the headlamp replaced, but I guess that's a question for another day

Anyone got any ideas what they may have changed/updated to give these symptoms ?

Sounds like an update or reset of the fem_body module. Simple enough to recode if you did it yourself before.

#1 rule : if you've coded anything, or had a remap, always give the dealer clear instructions (written if needs be) not to carry out any software updates (unless, of course, you need something fixing).

It's nothing I can't easily re-code. I'm more interested in why some settings remained, but others were cleared.

I'd assume some modules had an update available while others did not, at least that would explain why it only lost some things....
As for why they did it, maybe they thought they were doing you a favour, or they plugged it in to check for fault codes and it auto updated

I can't see anything about coding a replacement headlamp in the BMW manuals. It only mentions adjusting the light pattern when finished.

Just hooked up the laptop, and it appears they updated the i-step from the original F020-18-07-530 to F020-18-11-531.

I suspect that was the culprit.

Feckers did the FEM too. Just tried to put my coding back with Carly, and the FEM software is too new for Carly until they catch up with an update.

Unfortunately, this is where the radio off with door open option is hiding.

Looks like I'll have to mess around getting E-Sys running again.
