More mods=cheaper car insurance

Last year Adrian Flux quoted me more than 1k without mods but thought I would give it another try as insurance is up on June 7th
Declaring all mods I got a surprisingly good quote of £750 (considering it's East London). As I was about to pay I remembered that BM3 is coming up, so asked how much that would increase my premium. Turns out it decreased it to £717 as "it shows I care about my car". Was then told they might get the quote down further if I had more mods planned within the next 30 days.
Never knew this was a thing - really happy to be with a mod friendly insurer now. Pure800?

Well I never heard of it before - anyone else experienced this?
The insurer is Markerstudy Ltd. I was told this was their policy towards mods

My Audi A4 has been insured with MarkerStudy for years as it's highly modified - it's the 1.8T engine pushing 300bhp now from 163 standard. They've always been mod friendly. I think you can only get Markerstudy through brokers if i'm not mistaken.

Yes I just checked, only through brokers. I wonder if the system at Adrian Flux picks different insurers, hence why I got such a wildly different quote from last year. If you consider insuring with AF for a mod friendly quote, perhaps ask if they can select Markerstudy

Often the way with modified specialist insurers like Flux.

The premiums on standard cars are high because it's just not their thing.
Mods are their thing, but also generally people who do modify their cars tend to care more about their pride & joy than the average motorist, look after it more, and so less likely to make a claim.

Two years ago I binned my policy with these guys 24hours after taking it out. I found the reviews after putting down the phone to Adrian flux.

I can see things haven't changed since. Just yesterday:

In case of a claim, would you have to deal with them directly rather than AF?
AF has a much higher score
https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.adrianflux.co.uk

Seems what happens on Trustpilot is that Markerstudy deals only with people making claims - hence why their only reviews concern claims - while AF and many other car insurance companies get positive reviews for general customer service (ie for being cheap or quick on the phone).
It's a bit worrying reading those reviews, but I bet most insurers are going to make your life miserable in case of a claim

Worth checking the claims process with AF I suppose? But as we know markerstudy don't sell insurance direct to public, yet evidently the public are having to deal with them for claims..

I think it was the consistent theme of the complaints that irked me, seems that's still the case on trustpilot today.

But if they are much cheaper today then you might want to stay put? For me at the time there were other providers in the same ball park.

I am not too sure about that, the way the 'Max Power Idiots' drive around Basingstoke they must be making claims on a weekly basis

Guess I will take my chances as others are consistently above 1k or can't insure my car at all

Admiral were absolutely great when I had a write-off claim.

It's one of the reasons I'm still with them. The other is that their multicar comes out so much cheaper than anywhere else on two policies.

Surprising that considering I live in east london too and when I called for a quote last year they told me they don't insure my postcode lol
Pace ward and chris knott have been best for me quote wise, went with pace ward last year and just renewed for this year.

Their app is brilliant too. I'm often adding cars for temp cover & they always look after you with admin fees etc +1 for Admiral

Another thumbs up for Admiral. I totalled an Alfa a few years ago and they were great then too. Better the devil you know sometimes.

I've been insured by Markerstudy for years with all of my modified cars ( via Brentacre) When collecting my F30 330e they said they they couldn't insure me. Due to never having a rear wheel drive before.
I've had mk7 GTI, S3 and a Mini JCW previously, I was pretty annoyed as their modified policy is great and I can add as many mods I like with no charge ( unless adding significant power)

Apparently once I've owned the BMW for a year I can go back with them which I will be doing for sure.

Just my 2 cents

Currently with Admiral for now

I'm with Adrian Flux and they are great for mods obviously.

I gave them a list of crap for my car (turbo, pump etc etc) and they gave me a price. They also said we will make adjustments for a couple of future mods so you dont need to worry.

I then emailed them about an LSD and suspension and they just said it was all taken care of. The price difference for adding the lsd and suspension would have DROPPED the price but the charge for ammendments basically covered it.
