I purchased a delonghi esam 4200. From 2007 till now its been used relentlessly over 10 cups/day.
£279 on amazon. No touchscreen etc to break. It just makes great coffee day after day. I do zero maintenence on it ie no descaling etc. |

Best bean to cup according to Which? is the Melitta Barista Smart TS F85/0-102
I have a Sage Oracle which I love, though most of the Sage machines do well on test. |

I wouldn’t recommend Gaggia, everyone we had went faulty and very fussy with the type of bean used. Eventually went Delonghi and no problems also a lot easier to clean.

Jura are unfortunately relatively unreliable machines. They also do not have a removable brew group which helps with cleaning.

We've got a Jura Ena 9. Had it over 6 years, it's had a pretty hard life and not had any issues. What I would say is using a seperate milk froother works better than the built in one.

I had a delonghi ecam one and it was great for that fully automated Bean-to-cup. Swapped out a few years back for a Sage Barista Express.
Great machine and gives you a bit more ability to play with grinds/tamper etc to pull the perfect coffee. Each time you swap beans though, it’s almost a start over of adjustments again! When you get it right, especially with freshly roasted beans, it makes an amazing coffee |

As Malone says above the Sage machines are great as long as you aren't expecting a fully automatic machine. Mine makes wonderful coffee, far better than any bean-to-cup machine. |

My dad had a Delonghi one for a while which he cleaned properly. He started noticing a funny flavour to the coffee so gave it a clean again and noticed some black bits come out from an unserviceable bit. Removing some covers and doing some digging revealed some pipes that were absolutely covered in black mould. Utterly disgusting, and unfortunately in a bit that simply couldn't be dismantled for cleaning. This isn't a sleight at Delonghi, but I suspect many other machines suffer the same problem therefore be very sure you're getting something where it's all strippable and cleanable. He's got a Sage one now that is completely serviceable and seems to work well.
Seriously, clean these things. I saw it outside up where it had been thrown after he'd gone off to throw up and it wasn't pleasant, and there was no way to get in to the bit that was clogged with black mould and slime without actually breaking it. They may of course have resolved this design by now as that machine was probably manufactured 7 or 8 years ago, maybe more. |

@Ennoch
the funny flavour is usually due to diffuser going kaput. I have replaced this once few years ago ,spare £30 odd on amazon. The inside of the machine does get dirty from used up coffee bean products bit like the undercarriage of a car but this doesn't come into direct contact with the coffee brewing process/interior itself so no health hazard and they are top volume sellers. My in laws have a gaggia machine which again has worked for more than a decade no issues. |

I have taken the machine to bits once when the wife moved it and dropped it resulting in the buttons sticking. Remove the back panel and it allows your take off the side panels. From there you can see all the pipe work, which is opaque, and no mould was to be seen. Removing the control panel to reseat the buttons was a pain in the backside but I don't think they intended customers to be messing with this part as a serviceable item. |

Nespresso Vertuo - CBA with all the faff around B2C machines, especially as it's pretty much just me that has coffee.
I guess in a low-use scenario where you want better than Nescafé Gold but no faff, Nespresso is the best. |

We've had a Sage Barista Express for a few years now and are very happy with it. It makes great coffee, they can usually be found on Amazon for a good price too.
It's not fully automatic, but we like that you can play around a little bit to ones own tastes.
