Smart repair options

So did the usual school run to this morning… get back to my car and looks like a push chair/ bike or scooter has scratched my car

I’ve contacted chips away for a “free” quote but are there any other places worth trying that cover the west midlands? I definitely want a smart repair and not any repraying.

Scratch looks like this across the metal and plastic bumper

After a clean with megs stage 1 to remove the white residue - its pretty deep easily catches on my finger nail.

Is it down to the undercoat? Looks like a fair bit could be got out with an orbital polisher and some cutting polish.

I think its just the clear coat - after getting rid of the white residue left the base coat is in tact... i was hoping it could just have the clear coat applied in the damage and then a DA to flatten it.

Does it catch your finger nail? If not it should buff out, looks like its probably a bit deep thought tbh.

unfortunetly yes - its quite deep - and can feel it with my finger - let alone the finger nail

Thats why i was hoping it could have a smart repair - some form of clear coat filling then flattening.

Although using just the paint cleaner has disguised it a lot i still know its there!

I think it was probably done and they didnt realise or a child did it... the school runs are a mad dash affair!

I used to be mad precious about my cars... until once my son fell and in turn dropped his bike trying to get between 2 parked cars - marking an alloy on one of the cars - which in turn made my wallet £150 lighter!! - i see it as accidents happen!!

Very similar to me!

Lad was messing around on his bike and dropped it onto my rear bumper, nice great deep scuff. Touched it up with a touch up stick and buffed a little. Its not great but I barely notice it as its down the bottom half of the nearside rear so can't be bothered to spend the cash smart repairing it! Accidents are going to happen so no point dwelling.

Smash repair is generally still painting it.
It's just that they feather it into the local paint, rather than do a whole panel.

Fair point dude and a great attitude.

I remember school runs and definitely don’t miss them. Worst we had at our school was a child knocked down by another parent while on the pavement!!!

Exactly…. Kids!! I guess we we all used to be one!

My 5 year old has no concept of value still… tell him careful around the cars they are expensive…. His reply are they worth a million pounds… to which we rely no…. His response they are not that expensive then as a bugatti cost more than a million!!!

Not once to generalise but most of the cars used for the school runs are too big for their drivers!! (Although one could say using an M4 and S5 is excessive in other ways also)

I would have though this would be a dead easy job for someone - pretty minor but tried 3 places now… 2 havent bothered to reply even… and one asked for more pictures and then isnt interested!

Thought i’d update this…

After trying 3 different smart repair places none bothered to get back to me… so bought a scratch repair kit from paint4u and thought i’d give it a go myself!

Filled with base and lacquer… and let to dry for 24 hours

Taped around it before wet and dry sanding

The effect of the 2000grit wet and dry!!

Pretty amazed the G3 compound got rid of the sanding marks - all done by hand!!

Picked an angle most noticeable - once i give the car a clean polish and wax i think it will be 90% removed - and something i could live with.

You are a braver man than me.

Looks plenty good enough to me. And still the best colour!

Its dead easy…. Just ordered some leguna paint to touch up some stone chips on the M now i’ve got some confidence!

But Navarra has grown on me - i know people say Audi have limited colour choices… but tbh think the ones they have are nicer than the BMW/ merc equivalent (unless you pay extra for individual/ special colour)
