Nice one mate, much appreciated.

There is that I suppose, and I wouldn't advocate not telling your insurer about a tuning box.

What would the insurers obligation be to disclose this information if asked by BMW, I take it in the T&C's somewhere we've all agreed that they can provide this info?

Simple then show them the schedule as with me the additions were added later so would not be visible on the original quote

I got a new policy schedule. On page 2 under modifications it states "engine tuning chip 11% - 25%"

Just watched that video, looks very straightforward.....

Did you put your tuning box in a bag as well?

What settings are you on?

I put the box in the bag provided, thought it made the install look neater as well. On settings I went C6 > D7 > E6 > C9. Currently happy on C9, which suits the 30d in my opinion. I think the twin turbo guys are finding map E better.

I'm getting a X20i and was going to go for a JB4.... are you saying that with a petrol B48 it's not a good idea?

you have to be more careful on the x20i engine as it has higher compression ratio and different pistons than the x28i and if you increase the boost too much it will not last, that is for the n20 engine atleast.

dont get me wrong. JB4 have been about for ages and probably know what they are doing. i also presume as i have never seen one that they must be integrated else where in the system to see other things.

i wasnt trying to put down petrol tuning boxes at all. i just think if it was my car and being petrol know what over fueling a car can do etc id want it done properly with a remap OR id have to do serious home work about these petrol tuning boxes. a diesel is happy to be over fueled as thats how they run anyway.

also there was that story flying around not a long ago about an M4 at Snetterton with a tuning box that went bang but then someone on here was using a JB4 on his 335i. just do your home work to be safe

Lobb you feeling ok bud??? just playing catch up from yesterday and see you were on one yesterday

Tuning box installed and it does not work......

I followed the instructions and everything correct, engine on and blue light flashing, reved the engine and it stopped flashing.

Drove the car until it was warm and then accelerated, car felt flat and not wanting to rev also a loud rattling from the engine a bit like pre-detonation

I put up the sport dials on the idrive and the bhp was not going over 160 the whole car was lifeless. No engine management lights on. Would not Rev to the limiter

Took it off and Drove the car as standard and it was really quick and smooth reved to the redline as normal

Installed it again as per the instructions and video and went for a drive this time on C9 instead of C6

Exactly the same would not Rev out, power limited and that rattle noise so took it off.

Will speak to Bluespark in the morning but it's going back unless it's something obvious.

Sounds like a faulty box - if the blue light is flashing at idle then it suggests all the connectors are in the right place.

I'm sure they'll send out a replacement. I'd give it another go with that, and if you see the same issue again then maybe shelf it!

Yep that's my plan, bit of a shame though as I was pleased how easy it was to fit

Agreed - once I watched that video I was far happier doing the install. The boost connector can be installed the wrong way round, which is the only thing to watch for, but if this happens they say the car won't start. So a different issue from what you've been getting.

They said it sounds like the boost connector was the wrong way round so will try again, also to take a photo of the connector to make sure it was the right one.

Also said if I don't connect the boost sensor but connect both of their connectors together it's the same effect as the lower model so should be able to rule anything out regarding that.

Will report back.....

sounds interesting. keep us updated. i know the boost doesnt go in the wrong way as i did it first time lol but i didnt try to start i went and double checked everything and noticed :S

interesting it started though. from what i remember the sticker that says this way up is the same side as the white locking tab on the other part.

did you manage to lock the white clip again?? i couldnt at first and the car did start but after a few more wiggles as i wasnt happy i got it to go in further and i could then lock the sensor cable on. just thought id check

All sorted, the boost connector was the wrong way round, my mistake as it was tight to push in so thought it was the other way round as this was easier.

The difference is very impressive and I am shocked how up goes up the road, it doesn't pause for breath just romps on.

Have it set on C6 so may have a play with the settings, too much choice really.

Again great service from the guys at Bluespark
