Car accident, thoughts on extent of damage 428i

My wife was heading home from work and a car pulled out of an alley and they made impact.

I am not home and only have seen a couple pictures of the car. All the airbags went off, interested if from the one picture if it is loss.

She says the passenger door opens, but is rubbing against something.

What year is the car? I'd say anything older than 2015 is close to a total loss.
Airbags are probably $5-7500. Damage $10k
any frame damage then definitely a loss.
value for a 2015 is likely mid/upper 20's.

if they fix if, fight for diminished value.

Thanks everyone, it is a 2016 with about 60k. Bummer that I never got to see if buying a cpo was worth the money.

Similar damage as to my daughter's 2018 Mazda 3. With that one, no airbags went off and the repairs were $11,000, just short of being totaled. Ooof.

As for the damages, maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me but looks like there is suspension damage FR side. If EVERY airbag went off, as already mentioned before, start shopping.

I was able to look at pictures with the wife. She said 4 airbags went off, passenger side curtains, drivers steering wheel and the one by her feet. It is hard to see in the picture, but the front brake rotor cracked the front rim. She does not remember if that is oil or coolent on the ground.

It takes a lot of force for an airbag to go off. Usually if any airbags go off, let alone 4, it's a write off.

Agreed. Bags alone are going to be $7,000+

Looks like the other driver was at fault, hopefully they have good auto insurance or yours will have to step in. Totaled value probably about $14,000 or so.

How about week 3 in when alleycat insurance company says their research concludes f30 was speeding or possibly distracted and willing to only pay 50%?

Car definitely totaled. Definitely be in contact with your insurance provider that is protecting your interest as a client they would like to retain. Utilize the team of professionals available to you to deal with the professionals of the other insured driver that you're otherwise up against.

Im sure the actual collision was much scarier than the damage conveys, hope everyone is ok. Cars can be replaced.

Update on the car, turns out that only 3 airbags went off. The wife still looks like she got in a good fight given her bruises from the airbags.

Spoke to the body shop today and the repair cost is just below 18k. Hope to find out soon if they will repair it or total it. Will keep you posted. We are going through our insurance as the other drivers would only give stuff to LAPD.

I would hope they total the car rather than attempt fixing it. The car will most likely not ever drive the same even if all is fixed, especially if there’s frame distortion/damage.

It's a 428. What year?

It can't be worth more than about $18 anyway.

Unibody use in cars especially new car with independent suspension
Ladder type are use on pick up / truck and very old car.
Monocoque are use in racing.
