Tips for VTing

I’m going to be VTing my 2015 335dx pre LCI

Doesn’t make sense to carry on paying for it now I’ve hit the 50% mark and not going to keep it.

I called bmw fs and got the settlement figure. Does anyone know how quickly it can be done as don’t want another monthly to come out 01 July.

Also, any tips on what to do / not to do? I’m having the 19” diamond cut wheels repaired for £75 each which I think will be wise as they have been destroyed by the wife (and me on occasion!)

I’m also going to get some chips touched up for about £250 as I just looked at the guidance they give for fair wear and tear and I feel it could be open to a lot of debate.

Also, can anyone confirm what VTing does to credit history. I’m thinking the removal of this “debt” should surely see and increase in my rating.

Any other advices appreciated!

They will charge you for wheel damage over 50mm - maybe. At £75 per wheel, I think I'd chance BMW charges as I doubt they'd charge that much.

Same goes for the stone chips - just touch them up (we'll) yourself, £250 is a lot to pay.

The whole process is less than a week from selling them.

Not sure about the chips, but I definitely would not bother sorting the wheels. At worst they will charge you the same as your quote, but they completely overlooked mine on my last car and they were badly marked (I don't even have a current wife to pass the blame on to either!!)

You'd be surprised how they tot up the damages. Would be worth getting them to do that first before spending any money on it!

Heard they charge around £25 per wheel which is really cheap!

Do not fix anything yourself, the rates they charge are extremely low, stone chips are wear and tear for sure.

This is what I am working off. If I can’t believe that a “polished alloy wheel” is £50 for the whole thing!

Anyone else have any other experiences with getting shafted?!

Read here - They even have some template letters you can use.

There is a chance they won't even charge you.

Don't forget, you're not paying them for the cost to repair or replace the wheel - you're paying them for the reduction in the car's value.

I've just gone through this very exercise just over two weeks ago.
My advice is don't bother repairing anything, their rates are very fair. i.e. £16 for a small paint chip Dent...

Basically, ring them up, tell them that you want to return the vehicle. They will email you a template letter which you can either email to them, or send in the post.
Essentially you are officially notifying them off your intent to return the car. With the pack they email you, you fill it in, include the v5 minus the tear off and the Mot. After they receive it (recorded delivery recommended) you can't go back. Wait 48 hrs and call them to ensure they have received it. You get a call from bca to ask about a suitable date for the inspection and the pick up driver to come and get the car.
For timeliness, I emailed Monday, posted on Tuesday, spoke with them Thursday confirmed for the post. Bca called Monday, first available date for pick up was Friday. So by the end of the second week, car was gone. Depending on payment dates, I didn't make another payment.

There is advice saying that you should refuse to sign a "pack" they send you as you are admitting liability for any damage they find on the car. Apparently as soon as you have informed them of your right to VT, you need not make another payment as legally the car is now theirs.

Going to be going through all of this in august.

It's not a pack, just a suggested template letter, very simply saying you are officially letting them know of your intent to return the car.
I was 3k miles over, and had £126 outstanding to pay. As I'd already raised my miles from 12k per Anum to 18k around 2 years ago, the ~£270 quid for the additional miles seemed entirely reasonable so despite all the discussions on here regarding not paying it, I felt it was fair and paid.

I have just recently terminated my contract.

Didn't go as smooth as the last time though.
Got the paperwork signed, V5 sent & an additional rental fee. Sent the following day recorded delivery.
Waited around 4 days with no contact from BMW FS to request when it would be arranged for collection.
BCA contacted me to state they would not be available for 14 days.

This date would take me into June & thought I would have to make another payment to BMWFS. Phoned them to confirm I never had to make another payment.

Picked up the M3 a couple of days later.

340i collected last Friday.
BCA inspector noted the corrosion/white worming on a couple of the wheels.
He noted a charge of £51 for each wheel but I refused to sign for it as it was a warranty issue & the corrosion wasn't caused by me.

I'm expecting a charge for the excess mileage, but there is no way I'm paying to get wheels refurbished.

We'll see.

I vt’d my 335d a couple of months back. The inspector was thorough but the prices were fair. (Diamond cut wheels were £56 if I remember correctly)
We had a door ding repaired a while before and it was still slightly visible, the automated price wasn’t applied when he noted it due to the unknown extent of repair needed. Because of this he unofficially advised us to sign to say he’s seen the car, but not to agree damages. He said the costs could only be less than his assessment, so worth contesting.
We ended up being let off completely with no argument or discussion. 3 kerbed wheels, a slight dent in the door and a paint chip in a door shut from a trapped seatbelt.

In terms of damage to the alloys, how bad was it and do you think this £56 would be to have the wheel completely re-done. My kerbside front is pretty much scratched all the way around as is the rear too.

Just to clarify - once you VT if it runs into July will I need to make this payment if they cannot pick the car up before the payment is due?

My wife had made sure there was a good £56 worth of damage...
They were about 3/4 round heavy kerbing, no big impacts, but good deep scores.

What would the situation be with Mods and VT'ing? MPPK for instance which can't be removed?

The Bca inspectors will pick up on EVERYTHING but from my experience bmw don't always bill for it. I had a nasty stone chip that was touched up. It was picked up by Bca but I wasn't ever charged. They always bill for mileage but I was only a couple of k over so think it was around £200, which was fine with me since it cleared 2k of neg.

You make no more payments after they receive your form confirming the VT. Mine was received only a day before the payment went out so it was too late to stop it. Without any prompting from me they refunded it around a week later.

It took them 2 weeks to then collect the car, which fitted perfectly with my new car collection.

Just about to go and VT my 340i. There is excess mileage. I'm around 8k over after 2 years.

I've read on the legal beagle site that this is a grey area. Has anyone not paid their excess mileage charge?

I just paid it. it depends in what you want to do, if you are taking another bmw then I would just pay up the £800. i suppose you could chance your arm but I don't think I could be bothered with the hassle tbh.
