Thinking of upgrading from f30 320d

Just passed my driving test, yeah, at age of 28, didn't really need license earlier... any of you guys know how much would my insurance increase (in England) on an M3 or M4? Cheers.

If your new to having a license I personally would hold off on getting a supercar ( and I consider the M3/M4 supercars ).

328 with nice brake pads and good tires is a very nice car.

If insurance fees are one aspect of M ownership then tires and any repairs that aren’t warranty are things to consider.

Hmm. Probably a nice car, but car with 4 cylinders is car with 4 cylinders. Was looking at 335i but no manuals around and 340i costs almost as much as M4.

You'll probably get more responses to this on the UK F30 board...

Call your insurance for a no obligation quote or use an insurance comparison website. There are too many variables when it comes to insurance.

I'd take a look at the M5.

Nobody will be able to tell you how much it will go up, other than an insurance company.

Too many factors.

My daughter is 26 and has had a licence for nearly 9 years and just got a quote for an M4CP (new) and said the increase versus her Mini Cooper 5 door isnt too bad. I didnt push for how bad not too bad was but suspect less than a grand.

No claims and no points, decent ish post code in the south east...

There's a huge difference between having a licence for 9 years and having only just passed the test...

I'd imagine you're either going to get declined (due to newness of licence), or find a premium in the £ thousands.

But, as others have said, the only way to find out is to ask.

Newly passed.....M3 or 4.....bit ballsy!

Unless you're a very competent driver, I'd get some more experience under my belt with a less powerful/smaller car before taking the leap. Even more so, given the deteriorating condition of our roads and the increasing incompetence of other drivers.

I hope that they do decline or make it prohibitively expensive. 400+ bhp in the hands of a complete novice isn't a great combination!

Far better to spend a few years learning how to drive properly before buying a quick car. At the point someone passes their driving test, they have often only spent 20-30 hours behind the wheel of a small hatchback.

I know - just posting it for info. She has only ever had a Corsa and 2 Minis as her cars.... does get to drive other half's car (a 440i being one recent one) and has driven my SQ5 from time to time....

Still reckon at 26 she is lucky to find someone to insure her, pretty sure when her Mum was 26 I was paying £600 a year to insure a Rover 214....although her Mum could rarely say "no claims"....

M4CP a smart young lady. Sounds like you have given your daughter a good car education.

Hopefully she will let you borrow it from time to time.

She has an interest in nice cars - but it’s her other half who works for a car company who is driving it. She actually just wants a 120i MSport with 5 doors!

If she has the M4 I am sure I will get to try it...not really my thing though!
