F32 Tires for Midwest
I just bought a 2015 428xDrive. It has the sport line on it and I was thinking of getting new tires for the car. I live in the Midwest so I'm looking for tires that handle well in winter. No Runflats and I was also seeing what size should I get? I am purchasing BMW 437 or 763 reps from OEMCONCEPT. My current tires are 18s, what is the difference if I upgraded to 19s? Does the ride get worse? Do I better control in bad weather? Sorry I'm new to this and everyone is giving me different answers.

There are quite a few threads on this subject.
Before providing some initial guidance, it's helpful to learn ... - Do you prefer to have 2 wheels / tires sets: first - for summer driving, second - for winter driving? - Or: you prefer to have one set of wheels and have two different tires sets for summer and winter driving? |

I'd add that the 19's will certainly look better on that car. Depending on the wheel specs, you could upsize the tires to a point where the ride quality is more or less the same. I have some experience with the Conti DWS 06 in the snow, albeit light, but they were great! Treadwear rating is high, so they'll last quite a while.

Here's an example of what the above mentioned specs look like on a slightly lowered car.

Are your current OWM wheels square or staggered? BMW does offer staggered wheels as an option for certain models. My previous 2013 BMW 335i xDrive sedan came with optional 19" 401 Style staggered wheels.
There is just one wrinkle. If your particular xDrive model was never offered with staggered wheels either as a standard or optional feature, BMW may deny warranty coverage for xDrive components. While this sounds quite unlikely, it's nevertheless real. Another forum member is dealing with this issue. |

It's possible to run a staggered setup on an xDrive vehicle, but you need to be careful with tire sizes. The difference between the front and rear diameter should not exceed +/-1%. The sizes I mentioned above are safely within that 1%.

I've have many customers run that on a 19x8.5 ET35 with no issues.

Just stick with the stock tire sizing if you're keeping the stock wheels. If you're concerned about traction in inclement weather, the 225 tires will perform better than 245. Your tire shop is just recommending the widest (and most expensive) tire that will fit on your stock wheels.
Continental DWS are the best all-season I've owned while managing winters in ohio. But depending on how bad things get in Chicago you may still want to have a full winter tire on hand. I've had good luck in 6" or so of snow on the streets. Just remember in deep snow, the tires are capable but not bulletproof. |
