replacement of steering wheel thrust bearing made no difference. I dropped the tyre pressure by 3 psi and the sound is 70%gone. booked in next week under a different dealer. will ask them to check strut mounts.

Get it done!!!
I brought my 340 in for this front end noise and they said the strut mount/assembly was bad. Ordered parts and should be in next week. Hopefully this gets rid of the noise!

The purpose of this thread was to find the issue! We don't know!

So in nov 2018 which was last inspection before warranty ran out the dealer changed the left strut. I bought the car following month and there was no noise at all. I live in Michigan and the roads are just seriously bad and the weather started to get really cold I have noticed that noise a lot now and it's just annoying.

I guess what I am afraid of is the the right strut now needs to be replaced and that might solve the issue. Not sure. Will wait for the other guys to install and see

I also attached the last receipt from the dealer

Would you say that it got worse with the cold? Maybe it was there all along, but got worse when winter hit? That's when I heard it more.

Add my car to the list. I just purchased a 2013 335i xDrive with M-Sport package 6MT. 68K on the clock. Steering is rock solid and the car tracks straight. Suspension feels tight and handling is tight. But I get that rattle/shuddering noise at low speed over small bumps and imperfections in the road. Nothing at speed.

I have done a lot of reading on this forum and others have yet to find a definite cause.

If it is normal for the car, I can live with it. If there is indeed a fix, it would be nice to find it.

At the moment the only "fix" is the unfortunate turn the music up louder one and wait for the weather to warm up.

I also think that whatever the cause is, it is definitely made worse by the cold.

When I test drove the car, it was in the mid 40's and I never noticed any noise.

Today, the temps are in the low teens and the noise seems to be much more noticeable.

I am going to try to tighten up my steering bushing and see if that helps. I will also be replacing my stabilizer bar end links just in case. When I do this, I will inspect the various suspension bits and see if anything is loose.

I check the nuts on the top of my struts and they were tight so it isn't that.

If none of this works, I may try to replace the strut mounts.

And if nothing works, I will just drive faster and let the road noise, radio, and exhaust sound drown out the noise.

I'm experiencing the same exact wobble described in this thread.

I originally thought it was due to my car being on H&R springs but now I'm wondering if it could be a combination of things.

I'm curious to know if most of the people who are experiencing this issue are you on Stock or aftermarket springs? And are you still running run flats?

I'm in Minneapolis and I can tell you driving the car when it's -5 out feels like it's made out of glass and everything will shatter with one small bump.

Yes, I am on run flats. I am thinking it transfers more of the bumps to the rest of the car making the sound worse.

so i went to a different dealer. his mechanic 'spent a lot of time'(their words) and checked suspension components brake components differential steering and transfer case etc(u had requested all these be checked).
I inflated the tyres to recommended pressure once again and the noise is there but I will live with it have no other option and love my car

Well, I tried tightening up the steering bushing. It only made the steering effort a good bit higher. The noise was/is still there.

Checked over all the various suspension bits and nothing seemed loose. Oh, well.

To me it feels like the front axle has a tiny little play.... the front axle slides in and out of main drive shaft... this guy that keeps blowing his front axles due to lowering it has a nice diagram... I'm not talking about that scenario... just using it for the diagram and description of parts.... Click Here....

That's is what I think it is... but as all others... I rarely hear it... only on soft bumps like manhole covers sometimes...

Quick update. Whatever the noise is, it is definitely temperature dependent. Here in north Kentucky, the high today was 3 F. This is about 20 colder than my last post. Sounded like the front suspension was made of marbles. Not sure if it is just the nature of the car or if there is something wrong. I am thinking I may try to replace my front adaptive struts. Not cheap but it is the only thing I can think of and it seems some people have fixed their noise by doing this.

I don't have any noises when driving, the only thing in this thread I can relate to is the knocking when wiggling the wheel with the car off, as is demonstrated in the video on the first page. It really doesn't bother me, so can anyone confirm if this is at all harmful to the rack or any other steering components? If I'm not doing any damage to anything, I'm not inclined to fix it.

I had my rack replaced due to this same issue. But I have read that it could come back and I think it has with a few people and they said they would just live with it. If mine comes back I will just live with it.

Dang the whole rack huh? I had no idea this was such a common thing... Glad to hear it's nothing that will do damage if I don't do anything about it though, it really doesn't bother me.
