What options for high flow cat?

I know there are numerous threads out there discussing this but I am getting overwhelmed with all the info. Can someone tell me what the different high flow cats are available for the F36 N55? Also, The cat is in the downpipe correct? BMW's are new to me so I am still learning. Thanks for any help.

The cat is in the downpipe. Check out Fabspeed. They have a high flow that will not throw a CEL. It's $1400 though. If you have a tune that can clear a CEL, you have more options. ER, Wagner, etc.

Thanks pdegene. $1400 is way out of my price range. Thanks for the names. I'll keep searching.

Wagner, Fabspeed, Evolution Racewerks and VRSF are the popular Catted Downpipes right now.

If you are looking for a guaranteed CEL free operation, I believe only Wagner and Fabspeed offer that guarantee. If you are just looking to clean up sound and emissions then you can save a few bucks and go with VRSF.

The HJS Euro 6 300 cell DP is also CEL free and a few bucks more than the Fabspeed DP plus it looks close to OEM and is built to OEM quality.

From what I've learned on these forums is that for those of us that live in a state that has strict emissions (Massachusetts) the only down pipe that will definitely pass state emissions testing is the Fabspeed DP. I wish that wasn't so because their DP is about twice the cost of others...

If you are using a flash tune, Get the Wagner downpipe.

If you are using a JB4 or keeping the car stock, get Fabspeed.

Fabspeed offers a no CEL guarantee.

We got both in stock

Mike, will the Wagner catted DP pass state inspections? I'm more concerned driving around with a rejection sticker on my windshield that attracts the attention of the police than the CEL light on.
Thanks.

I have the VRSF catted downpipe which is probably the cheapest downpipe you can find for the n55. Sound and performance gains are definitely noticeable. It gave me a CEL so I swap it on and off to pass emissions. I took it off the car monday so i can pass NY emissions this week and the car is definitely lacking power without it. Would recommend VRSF, especially if you don't have strict emission laws in your state.

No tune yet until I get the VRSF fmic. Doesn't make sense for me to run more than stock boost if I don't have the necessary equipment to keep temps low. Plan on going with BM3 before spring.

There's a guy over on the MHD thread that runs the OEM cooler and no issues he says... besides you live in queens... not like your gonna be running around getting the temps high especially in this weather... but you already went through all the work of switching back so it is what it is...

P.s. I know for a fact MHD passes... haven't heard confirmation if BM3 does...

I was told by a tuner in Brooklyn BM3 doesnt get all the monitors ready, and that the only way I could pass is to swap back the oem DP to clear the code. Otherwise I would've looked into MHD flashes... Now I have to do my research and see which tune is "better", MHD or BM3

they are both the same for the most part... MHD has better logging (auto-logging) and more convenient.... somebody already listed all the differences... in the end they both are good... as for max hp... doesn't matter... Your gonna get a custom tune if your hung up on Hp on either one...

Flash MHD and drive 3 cold/hot cycles for a total of minimum 50 miles on the highway 40-60mph (trip out to Roosevelt mall/shopping did the trick for me) and your good to go...

Evolution Racewerks has a great High Flo Cat option on their downpipes.

Catless would have been cheaper if you have no issues swapping it out for NY inspection.
