Not quite.

- 2 Series Gran Coupe, GT, and AT (the latter two already on the market) with FWD/AWD
- 2 Series Coupe and Convertible with RWD/AWD
- M2 Coupe (and maybe Convertible) with RWD
Probably worth pointing out that a fwd based ?awd? BMW is 100/0 until slip and a rwd based ?awd? BMW is 40/60 until slip.

In other words, an awd X1 is not nearly the same thing as an awd X3.

I am not so sure that BMW will have 2 different platform for 2 series.

I really hope they keep RWD but it is unlikely for 2er.
It does not make sense in terms of cost.
Also, I don't think 1/2 series sells way more than A3 or A class. So there is no reason for BMW to keep RWD 2er.

I hope I guessed totally wrong, though.

Front calipers on the forward side of the rotors? What is this, a Civic?

Oh wait - it is a Civic...

Haha, yeah, previously they?ve only done that dumb move on awd F10s. Not sure who the engineer that messed up the steering rack was, but he?s probably been promoted since then.

The dilution of the roundel continues unabated. Pity!

The car deserves a longitudinal engine and rear biased AWD.

Sure, although that applies to pretty much every manufacturer, not just BMW.

According to Van Meel, BMW is sticking with the I6 for M models. That means the 2 Series coupe/convertible remains RWD because they aren't going to build an M2 with a transverse I6.

Corroborating this is the next generation 2 Series coupe and convertible model codes which are G42/G43. In every case we know of, "G" is used for CLAR vehicles, while UKL vehicles still use "F".

It does if 2 Series Coupe/Convertible customers would flee to other brands were BMW to take away the RWD.

The A3 and A Class are sedans and hatchbacks. For the 1 and 2 Series models that will compete with those products, BMW is moving to FWD.

I have one question, are those men inside so HUGE or is something wrong with car's measurements?

And the Continental, Taurus SHO, Impala SS, Grand Prix GXP - the history books are full of great transverse V8 cars.

Audi/VW has exclusive rights to the latest Haldex that transfers a fixed rate to the rear axle of their transverse awd setups. That?s why AMG is stuck with no power to the rear and Ford came up with their own setup for the Focus RS.

SHO, Grand Prix, and Impala were fwd only and outside of Conan O’Brien, I’m not sure many people call either great.

The DTS mentioned by the poster I replied to was also a FWD car. Might've been an AWD option - don't remember, but don't think so.

Surely not me. Hence sarcasm, which is what I thought this was, but maybe you were serious, LOL

Some of the Volvo I6 were also fwd, so you?ve got me there. I think the V8 was only awd. Not that it made it any better.

How cool is that we?re comparing new BMW models to ten year old Pontiacs, Fords and Volvos?!

To be fair we are talking about theoretical transverse I6 BMW models that they are smart enough to not actually build.

Luckily BMW won't need it any time soon, so that could change, or they could roll their own like Ford.

By the time BMW is ready to build small, AWD M vehicles, we may be onto a new platform with an electric motor sitting out back doing most of the work, with another one up front and the ICE there primarily for range extending. A lot can happen in ten years time.

Nonetheless, I still think it looks too tall. More GT than GC, in my eyes - the window outline is not sporty or sexy.

It's almost like if a widescreen photo has been squeezed horizontally to fit 4:3 format...
