I have a 6WB cluster I added, and there was custom coding I had to pay for to get it to work.
I'm concerned the cluster won't even work after they perform the service, and that I will need to have it coded again.

I have a heated steering wheel retro and it continued to work fine. I did get to drive home with my LED bulbs flickering at random since the cold/warm monitoring coding had reverted. Forgot to take the adapter and just code it in the parking lot.

Just got back from the dealer who informed me that since i do not have an active Connected Drive account that they will not do the upgrade.... Anyone else have this issue?

Are you kidding? This is going to piss me off if true. I never received a letter and today I was notified my subscription ended and my car is actually at the dealer right now getting something checked out. I just emailed them to ask why I couldn't renew my subscription and I came on here to find this thread.

That should certainly lock the DME if it's a full system update, but you stated it didn't???

Weird...late last year mine was updated to F20-20-11-540 which locked my DME. Interesting that a newer update does not.

Most seem concerned that this Telematics firmware update will come alongside other BMW system software updates, that may even include getting a DME version update that locks the DME. Kinda like they give you a bundled set of updates vs. ala carte. (Why wouldn’t they just update the systems only relevant to the 3G/4G functions?)

It’s seems mainly from folks who are currently not running a tune but want to in the future (or want to retain that option).

My Q is kinda opposite: I’m already on MHD tuning. I’m out of warranty (BMW & CPO). I installed the tune after those ran out, so my Dealer SA isn’t aware yet. I have an active Connected subscription, and got the notice and offer of the free 3G fix/update. I’d like the update.

Should I bring it in as-is (tuned), or flash back to stock first?

Can they apply a bundled update to my car with the tune installed? (Does that just skip the DME update piece, if one was included, and just do the rest? Or will it all fail if any part of it fails? Or could they be unable to do the Telematics update since they can’t/won’t update the DME over my tune?

If I flash back, there’s that risk they could then update my DME to a version that locks it. Could previously having a tune installed on their DME be sufficient to explain how pdxpeter seems to have received a DME software version bundled with their Telematics update that based-on-date would seem it indicate a locked DME, but it isn’t, since they were able to flash their tune back afterwards? Like once tuned the DME is permanently unlocked?

Ideas and opinions welcome. I’ll be making my 3G/4G update offer appointment soon.

What? That's absurd...mine ended too and it seems weird seeing that you can sign up for the subscription of connecteddrive anytime and the update is suppose make that work properly?

It did not. I had bootmod3 flashed when the dealer did the software update. Once I got it back everything was clearly reset. I had xHP on there too and it was gone as well.
Came home and reflashed bootmod3 and xHP with no issue.

I just spoke to ConnectDrive and although I have a 2016 model year with 4G telemetry, from what they are explaining to me is that earlier versions of the 4G hardware will not support AT&T migration from 4G to 5G and voice calling, hence the necessity to replace the hardware, which apparently requires a software update also, to be able to sync with the new revised hardware.

My vehicle is eligible for the upgrade also but my dealer is not aware of this program, so it would require some convincing to the higher-ups.

Strange, my RTTI stopped working on Monday. Haven't received any notice in mail or email about a free upgrade.

Is there any harm in asking the dealer if the update locks the DME? I guess you get flagged, but if out of warranty, who cares? What happens if the DME is locked with respect to flash tunes?

Most don't care about getting flagged when out of warranty, but if the DME gets locked you have to ship it out for a bench unlock, costs about $250 last time I had to do it. It's a cat and mouse game, because newer DMEs can't even be bench unlocked, so some folks don't have the option of flash tuning until the tuners catch up and figure out a way to unlock them. I'm gonna take the upgrade, if they lock it again then oh well... I've gotten accustomed to RTTI...

Sometimes my rtti would stop working for no reason so I stopped paying for it. Been thinking about getting an upgrade to apple car play head unit. Wish BMW would have an option to do this with full warranty.

Got my notice that my 3/15 build is out of connectivity and not available for upgrade. Pretty bummed, but also gives me reason to have an NBT EVO coded to my vin and use it for carplay...

As long as you have an active subscription they should be able to do the upgrade. I called BMW assist and they were confused. One rep told me it wouldn't be eligible and one said to call the dealer. Dealer said it's eligible and to setup an appointment.

So the prerequisite is that you have active connecteddrive subscription?
