My car went in for some warranty work(the long standing interior light fault with adaptive cruise).
My question is for anyone who has had warranty work carried out, did you get given a report stating what work was carried out? Or did they just say"we replaced the part and it's fixed for you" keys handed back. The reason I ask is that before handing over the keys I asked if they had the upgraded part in stock, they had no idea what I was talking about. I said it's pretty pointless me taking the day off and bringing the car here then. Then moments later they DO have it, but I was then waiting for over an hour in the seating area to call me to a service desk, it wasn't busy either. Call me sceptical but I got the feeling that something wasn't right. Anyway after an hour and a half I got away. But on picking up the car I was just given the keys and told it was changed, I thought I would at least get a sheet saying what they changed and why?! Otherwise I have no proof that they had the car and that the part was changed. |

I got a sheet listing everything they replaced when mine went in for a new suspension spring.
Although I do pay for the BMW warranty so that may make a difference. |

I never got a printout when I had the crank and chains replaced under warranty.
Thing to remember is any prospective purchaser can call bmw and ask what work has been carried out. |

Thanks for the replies, ok seems to be the norm, that's a relief. I suppose I will find out if it fixed it after a long drive on cruise.

Mine's only been in for the EGR recall, got a full itemised "receipt", no figures on it.

If some prospective buyer does phone Bmw months/years later, and they say that worrk has not been logged on their system you’re in the shit. No paperwork- no proof. |

Of course the work will be logged in their system. Same as any service history would be.

I would assume the issue is a software problem, not hardware related?
Were any of your user settings reset? Things like radio presets, crash warning distance etc? These seem to get reset when my car's firmware is updated. |

I now press them to find out exactly what has been done - including seeing the handwritten workshop report.
I do this after being out and out lied to by a service rep a few years ago. I'm not interested in what any warranty work might cost, more that I'm being told the truth about what is being done to my car. |
