What options do I have for ECU tuning a 2019 440i Gran Coupe Xdrive?

Hello folks. I'm new here. I spent about a week researching options for my situation and e-mailing a bunch of local tuning shops to find out the best option for me but alas, I can't seem to figure it out.

I just leased a 2019 BMW 440i Gran Coupe Xdrive and I was hoping to find an easy and cost effective way to increase engine power without hampering the drivetrain or the cooling system. Since I won't be installing any aftermarket parts on it (It's a lease), I was hoping for a "simple" ECU flash or tune up to achieve just that.

After searching for a while, I narrowed my options down to 3 choices and here they are:

Now I'm not an expert at this. My previous vehicle was a 2016 Cadillac ATS 2.0T which I used a Trifecta tune on and that worked great so I was hoping for a similar option with this BMW.

Which one should I go with and what other options do I have? The local shops here are asking for $1000 + tax with no dyno testing. I have no idea if it's a good deal or not.

I would go for the BMW OEM tune. You still got warranty and I guess you don't want to lose it, especially since it is a lease.

What is a BMW OEM tune? Google doesn't return any results. I doubt the dealer would do such a tune up.

You do not need to do any physical modifications for an ECU tune.

However, you will quickly be broken down on the side of the road with a blown Charge Pipe, waiting for a tow to the repair shop.

And hopefully the plastic CP pieces did not get sucked into your engine intake when it exploded. Otherwise, you have an even more serious issue than just a Chargepipe replacement (and you will just blow the plastic OEM replacement again).

This is the a B58, not a N55.. It doesn't suffer from the same charepipe issue, it has take more boost, stock (up to 26lbs). It's also designed to with a flex section and is placed in a location to resist vibration, unlike the N55.

OP, I suggest you hold out a little; Dinan is supposedly working on a flash tune (not a piggyback) that should be out soon, for the B58.

It probably would be offered with some sort of warranty..

I thought the charge pipe issue was fixed for the 340i? :

Dinan usually has dealer-support, same as their old piggyback matching 4/50k mile warranty. My dealer in NJ, the service bay is plastered with Dinan promotions.

So, you wouldn't have to worry as much when it comes to warranty issue and possible denial, since a Dinan tune would have its own supplementary coverage.

As Poochie mentioned, Dianan's coverage is supplementary (typically 4/50k), Just a head's up that this particular part you mentioned (as you may have noticed) does not carry the typical 4/50k mile warranty. It's a one year warranty only. If you're worried about warranty, then this one is probably not worth it. You're better off getting a different Dinan tune.

I thought the charge pipe issue was fixed for the 340i? :

So I went with the 93 Stage 1 BM3 Mod and here are the results with 94 octane fuel as well as the weight of the car with half a tank of fuel:

2000 kilometers on the car and no oil change yet

I have a 2018 440i x Drive Gran Coupe and I also have been researching the possibility of getting a tune.

I see that you got yours. Newbie here and I don't even know what I am looking at on those charts haha. Can you let me know - in simple terms . . do you notice a significant improvement after the tune? Was it worth the cost? Are there any drawbacks? Would you do it all over again?

Post mortem for the BM3 Mod. AVOID.

The power is good and exhaust sound was great. But, after about 6 months, I got some error messages on the dash and battery warnings. Took it to the dealership (didn't tell them I had a tune on it obviously). They said they discovered lots of oil and gas mixing in the cylinders, reset the car back to factory (removing the tune), and handing the car back to me.

I didn't bother putting the tune back on. The car drove fine for about another year, and then suddenly, I heard a loud noise and a pressure vessel losing pressure in the car with the AC immediately turning hot.

Took it to the dealership, they told me the engine belt had "melted" and on its way out it basically destroyed the AC compressor and parts of the water pump. Cost about 7K to fix and voided the vehicles warranty.

Absolutely would not recommend this tune, or any other for the simple fact that even an extra 60-70 bhp with no modification to the drivetrain can cause this sort of thing.

PS: Only ever did 1 track day with this car and it was in the wet.
