Ross did a great job, no issues whatsoever and an incredible price. I brought in the timing chain kit from FCP plus oil/filter. Turnaround time 2 days give or take to get it done

97,000 miles, no symptoms, I had the car since 58k miles and did changes every 7k miles. The mechanic did say the chain had some stretch on it but the guides looked good for the most part. It's inevitable that the chains will stretch on the older models.

Hi all,
I have a 2012 528i with about 97k on it. I was able to get my dealer to look at the timing chain last year at around 79k miles (attached image). Would I still be covered if I cross 100k by the time this settles? And how much would be covered? Appreciate the help! Last edited by sai528i; 11-05-2020 at 06:25 PM.. |

Just to expand on that more, the court documents reference the mileage listed in the mechanics invoice for the repair.

If there is abnormal sound then its not preventative. They are failing... just has not crossed the complete failure threshold yet. It's all about documentation of course.

Just had my 2013 X1 (85k mi) timing chain replaced by my Indy. My chain had developed a little bit of the tell-tale whine sound and had developed scoring marks. Indy said there was some stretch on the chain, compared to the new one. The guides were mostly ok, with a couple of tiny microfractures (5-7mm) where they come together. I requested only BMW parts as I plan to get reimbursed from the class action. They had to replace a couple of extra parts as this job is very involved.

"Based on Google searches and review of this Court's PACER system, I understand that BMW North America has agreed to a settlement that has been preliminarily approved, but will not be approved and effective until sometime in 2021." Do you have the details of the preliminary settlement and if so can you please share them? Thanks for all of your work following the Class Action ......

Here is docket 78 with the corresponding answers from above... Roman numeral is the question, number is the answer.
I. Model year and model of all class vehicles originally sold and an estimate of the percentage of the class vehicles excluded under the settlement agreement. 1.Model and model year for all class vehicles originally purchased II. BMW NA’s current or recent U.S. average dealer warranty claim dollars and labor time for each BMW service code for repairs to be covered under both the warranty extensions including a list of separate warranty claim amounts for each of labor, parts and other costs. 2.Median rate for repair, costs and labor per model for engines and chains III. Excel spreadsheet databases of class vehicles claims/reimbursements for each of New Passenger Vehicle Limited Warranty, component warranty extension, goodwill and certified-preowned vehicles. The databases should include nature of claim repair, dollars paid segregated into major categories (e.g., parts, labor, other costs, and total), labor time and rate, claim number and claim repair order number, vehicle model year, vehicle identification number, vehicle warranty start date, repair date and odometer reading. 3.Included in # 2 IV. The U.S. average per hour dealer warranty labor reimbursement rate for the most recent annual period available. 4.Moot V. The current average consumer retail purchase price for each class vehicle model for BMW NA’s 100,000-mile Platinum coverage option. 5.Current average consumer retail purchase price for each class vehicle model for 100,000 mile platinum coverage option VI. BMW NA’s estimated new vehicle warranty cost rate (%) for class vehicles (estimated average per vehicle warranty costs divided by the average vehicle sale price to U.S. dealers) and estimated warranty costs including both warranty and goodwill claims expected to be paid by BMW NA to U.S. dealers at dealer warranty reimbursement rates. 6.Denied VII. BMW NA most recent estimated out of pocket costs for the class action settlement. 7.Denied |

I believe the full emissions system is warrantied for that long. Includes exhaust system and fuel lines and some other stuff. The rest of it is not warrantied that long and the timing chain isn't part of that warranty to my knowledge...

However, there is speculation and hesitation among people since it does not specifically state TC. But as stated, other people have used it successfully in their favour. For this reason, I would say yes.
