Old fart needs advice
Hi, due to my age and one or two other problems it looks as though I will be confined to home for the next twelve weeks, meaning my 2016 330d will not be moving off my drive.
Are there any preventative measures I should take to make sure the car is ok when the time does come to drive again. Charge battery, that sort of thing. Hope you all stay safe and well in these troubling times Alan |

I would ask some relation (son, daughter, etc) to give it a good exercise run at least once a fortnight. That is just about 6 times during your 12 weeks off time. Cars, like us, need exercising to keep well

If the drive is relatively level, chock the wheels and leave the car in gear with the handbrake OFF to prevent the brakes being seized solid.

Look for a CTEK battery charger, connect that to the jump start connection points under the bonnet, and just leave it on. It will trickle charge the battery as necessary without causing any harm.

I'd say lock it up, handbrake off, chock a wheel and forget about it for 11.5 weeks. Before you go to drive it, maybe plug in a boost pack but if it's a 2016 I doubt you're gna have any issues starting it. Ambient temps will be warmer too.
Stay safe, lots of support out there for the shielded group, try to get into your garden/some sunshine if you can or take regular vitamin d (800-1000units) and time to hunker down! |

I leave the Boxster in the garage every winter, sometimes for 4 or 5 months. Don't start the engine and run it for a few minutes as it turns the oil acidic. Takes a 30 minute run to boil off the combustion by products when you start it.
Apart from that I just connect it up to a CTEK battery maintainer and leave the handbrake off with the wheels chocked as others have mentioned. Not had a problem in 9 years of doing this. |

If this is just Covid-19 related, then why cant you take it on a wee drive yourself - you are not exposing yourself if you dont get out the car.
otherwise, hand break off and be prepared for a flat battery if you cant charge it. |
