Yeah exactly, it shouldn't be too bad at all, it's just finding the right tool, will see what bits I've got for my Dremmel and go from there. I had extended storage on my F20 and miss the cubby on my current car.........might as well use the empty space!!

I would probably drill four holes, one on each corner and then saw between them with a hacksaw blade in a small handle. Probably an 18 or 24tpi blade which should be fine enough to not rip the dash up

Yeah I was thinking about it last night, I also thought about chain drilling it all the way round. Will take some pictures when I do the dash cutting, I'm not too worried about doing it tbh, will be fine. Am picking up the parts on Thursday so might have it done by the weekend.

Chain drilling should work fine as well. I'm sure it will come together great 😀

Hi Hugrov.

Any change you could list the part numbers you've ordered and the cost per item.

Look forward to seeing how you do this and how it turns out.

I've received the parts listed above from Marshall BMW at Grimsby and the actual prices:

0633 Folding Box - £33.42

7520 Support Brkt - £2.42

5673 Screws - £0.78

VAT - £7.32 and free delivery

Total for parts - £43.94

I might get it fitted today so will post pics once finished

As usual, Marshall Grimsby were excellent to deal with and parts received within 3 days of ordering.

Fitted it this afternoon Caz and the only thing I will say is that this isn't a mod for the faint-hearted. There's no template or anything to guide you when cutting the dash, it's all guess work and you have to cut out a large rectangle (almost all of the indented area where the cubby sits) but you have to be REALLY careful, it's very easy to ruin your dash by cutting out too much material or slipping whilst cutting and marking the surrounding dash.

Am I glad I did it..........Yes

Is it worth the money............For me personally, yes, I missed having the cubby and used it a lot on my F20

Should you do it..............It depends how confident you are on the tools and if you're prepared to take the risk of cutting the dash. You'd never be able to tell that I've cut my dash because it fits really well and I was very careful but it wouldn't take much for it to be a completely different story!!

Just a couple or three pictures from my folding glovebox install today. As I mentioned earlier on in the thread, this isn't a mod to be undertaken lightly as there's a lot of scope for trashing your dash if you get the cutting wrong. The install went well but the biggest problem is that there's no template or guide for marking out the area to cut, it's all guess work.

As mentioned in previous guides, the first step is to remove the vent assembly by the driver's door then reach through the hole and depress 2x metal retaining clips holding the light switch assembly whilst simultaneously pulling the light switch assembly out, once out, disconnect the light switch assembly connector.

I then marked out the area to be cut. I stayed approx 6mm inside the indented area of the dash where the cubby would be fitted. I marked a line along the top and down both sides of the dash but wasn't sure how far down I should cut, I started by marking the bottom line 70mm down from the top line. I then started cutting with a Dremmel type tool fitted with a cutting disc, this cut well but created a lot of dust. Once I'd cut out the marked rectangle, I offered up the folding glovebox body, it wouldn't fit so I had to extend the lines down each side and cut more material out along the bottom. This is where you have to be really careful because it would be easy to remove more material from the dash than the glovebox front trim can cover. The picture showing the hole in the dash was the finished size and shows the hole just before I tided up the edges before fitting the glovebox.

Once the glovebox was fitted into the dash, I secured it with the locking plate and the two screws, the locking plate sits on top of the glovebox inside the dash and pulls it up tight against the dash to secure the glovebox in place. The glovebox can be moved up and down and left and right to align it correctly before the screws are tightened finally.

Cheers Caz, not one of the more enjoyable mods I've done due to me bricking it about trashing my dash but I'll definitely use it, not too bad for £44.

Great job mate! You didn't happen to measure the size of the final hole prior to installing the glovebox?

Hi mate, thanks very much. I didn't get the final hole measurement (not much help I know) but if you look at the picture of the hole cut out, you can see at the bottom where the indented area runs out at the sides, I'd say you need to keep the bottom of the hole about 10mm above where the side indents finish. Hope that helps, if not just let me know and I'll remove the glovebox and measure it for you.
