2014 BMW 328d base with 70,000

I have CPO 2014 BMW 328d. 26000 miles at the time of purchase and as of today it has around 70,000 miles. Most of them are freeway miles (60 miles a day) on busiest 405 freeway in Los Angeles. I always get 42+ mpg on sport mode. It is slow on stop and go traffic. Here are the issues i had which were fixed.

1) DPF replacement at 36,000 miles
2) NoX replacement at 42,000 miles
3) DPF replacement at 48,000 miles
4) fuel pump replacement at 54,000 miles
5) i have iDrive old version with small screen. Radio died at 56,000 and paid 1500 to replace

Having said that i still like the car and will keep it for long time

What was the issue that ate your DPFs?

All i know from the dealers invoice is DPF sensor has been replaced both the times. The information i gave is purely based on work dealer performed on my car. Warranty took care of it both the times.

2014 328d in California: 93,000

Purchased in 2017 with about ~40,000 miles on it. So far, I've had to rebuild the drivers tail-light harness, replace a daytime running light, and I get an intermittent ( about 3 times a year ) "cruise control malfunction" indication upon putting the car in drive.

Other than that, car runs like new. literally. not a hiccup. But, I am on top of the maintenance.

oh, and thank goodness isn't not xDrive. now, what non-run-flat tires to get...

Congratulations! Nice car and really like the steering wheel. These are great cars...have had my wagon for a month and love it. Its hard not to want to personalize it...I couldn't resist either. LOL

I have a 2014 328d (wagon),little over 120K on it, and it appears the transfer case is out. Not sure if anyone knows what the approximate cost is at the dealer.

I'm in the Dallas area.

$4-$5k for them to replace it in my area (SC). I wouldn’t imagine it would be too much more or less for Dallas

I would not go to a dealer for any out of warranty work, they'll charge you up the ass. Buy the parts yourself and get an indy shop to take care of it.

Cheapest I've been able to find it new:

Used transfer cases can be useful here too. I guess it's the output flange problem?

Interestingly, despite a price of $1595 for the pre-LCI transfer case, BMW wants $4295 for 27108643150, which should be exactly the same part, with a slightly smaller output flange. I'll keep hoping the TC doesn't fail on my 2016.

I've done some research on this and have done the preventative maintence on my pre-LCI (new flange, rubber guibo, xfer case fluid).

LCIs have a rubber guibo (flex disc) from factory instead of a steel one like the pre-LCIs, so theoretically the output flange shouldn't wear out (as quickly) because there's less vibration. Unless you're keeping the car for 100k+ miles, odds are you'll be fine. Yes there is the occational LCI that has this problem but it seems way more rare than for the pre-LCI cars. There's a chart documenting forum member failures somewhere and it seems to support that theory.

Just bought mine with 74k miles and hoping to keep it for 200k+ miles. So far I love it. Yes, I've read the thread with the chart and that played into my decision pay a bit more to purchase a post-LCI 2016 instead of an early 2015. Trying to decide if I should pull the flange off, inspect and do Enabled's Loctite treatment.

What is the build date for the change?

July 2015 I think. You'll know based on the facelift.

07/2015 is when the transfer case (27108643150) went to the 96mm output flange size, and a rubber giubo. No other significant change. Same price.

I think it's too early to say that the rubber giubo is enough to prevent this, the data points are simply from newer cars.

Thanks so much.

I actually called a BMW dealer here in the DFW area an they quoted me around $7,700!!! I owe around 6K for the car so I'll have to decide to repair it or trade it.

If you know where to look, good used ones with no trouble can be found for much cheaper. PM if you want.
