I had my 1990 M3 when I was 26!

You might see skewed results because the older drivers are not on this forum.
Exactly ! My dad is 83, he drives a 2013 328i, never visit any forum.

Having a used car allowed me the financial freedom to take jobs that didn't pay well that served as stepping stones towards a strong career. It also allowed me to buy a townhome and eventually a house. I wouldn't have done those with a $40-50k BMW eating up all my income. If I had, today I would be at a lower paying job with no equity on my home because I would have lived in an apartment I rent with a nice bimmer instead of a house I owned with a used Audi. Now I can have a nice bimmer I never previously thought I could afford.

When my kid gets his first car, it will be a used inexpensive car so that he can make a better life for himself. He will have the shittiest car in the neighborhood instead of the best car in the apartment complex.
This is a good experience to share with those having no rich daddy! My first Bimmer was a 12 years old E30, second one was a 10 years old E36, third one was a 7 years old E90, forth one is a brand new F30. All my life has been struggling with repair bills and wasting time for tow trucks before the new F30 arrived. Now, I have my fifth F39 as a second car alongside with F30. The happiness I had for my first brand new Bimmer was overwhelming! Have not had the same pleasure when I bought my F39.
I suggest for those young people who's financial situation is not allowed you to afford a less than 3-year old Bimmer, better stick with something practical, not to burden yourself and waste your time and energy. Old timer is only for the rich!

I hear you. I sold mine to pay for an engagement ring and bought a Maxima...

Oh and also a divorce 10 years later.

No good marriage ends in divorce. Congratulations on solving a 10 year old problem!

64yo, 3rd bmw. I tend to continue modifying my cars as I age. Could simply buy a higher performance car but for some reason its not the same.
