F30 320I N20 poor fuel consumption, pls help.
All,
My 2105 plate F30 320i bought 2 weeks ago only seems to do 26 MPG in town (comfort mode) and on motor way I think only 35 MPG..these figures don't look impressive, being a BMW driver I am not expecting great consumption on a petrol automatic 320i, but these still look poor to me. Is this the same experience with other F30 320i 4D Step Auto owners? just wanted to check? Please suggest. Thanks. Satish |

As a point of comparison, the same site rates a E90 328i at 18/28 mpg, comparing to the f30 328's rated 23/35, that is about 25% increase in fuel efficiency and provides decent power bump too (especially the torque at lower rpms).
Not sure if this even matters, but in my 328i xDrive, I get 11L/100km (so about 20-21mpg) in almost 80% in the city/traffic. I am sure other 320i owners can comment on their specific, real world, numbers. |

Regardless, the best way to check is to run your VIN with a VIN decoder and that shoudl list the exact specs your car came with from the factory. I use a site like: https://www.bmwvin.com/ ... but any of them will work (just google "BMW VIN Decoder"). Your VIN can be found on the interior door jamb (where the tire pressure specs are) as well as in your front windshield area (visible from outside of car, looking into the front windshield, driver side). EDIT: Realized that you may not be living in North America (silly of me to assume), so the first paragraph prob doesn't apply to you. Regardless, use a VIN decoder and you will know exactly what your car came with! |

The MPG you describe is actually quite good and I really don't know what you were expecting or what lead you to believe the n20 in the 320i would get better MPG than you are reporting. Its not a hybrid

Well--if you do mostly highway driving, that's not good. If you do constant city stop-and-go, that's probably about right. I get 22-23 mixed suburban driving.

I would still check air filter and spark plugs as well ... dirty filter/plugs could impact fuel economy. As well, if you literally just got the vehicle, I would drive it around normally and wait for it to "settle" (I know when I get a new vehicle, I get very excited and perhaps drive it a bit more aggressively then I would normally). |

Bumping this thread - I just got a 2016 BMW 320i with 22000 miles. Mostly highway driving and I'm only getting around 20 mpg as well, even though the trip computer is saying 27mpg. I filled up with 13 gallons and only went 260 miles. What should I do to diagnose this? Or just take it back to where I bought it and make them diagnose?

Those are good numbers, better than what I get.
2019 is mostly highway due to commuting.

The car should be more efficient with highway driving. Where are you reading the figures from? If you read from the idrive the figures should be more accurate over more miles than the dash readout. Even then it's about 35 mpg. |
