Black f30... Need some inspiration for what % of window tint go for??

I want to keep the rears factory and go slightly lighter at the fronts...

any idea what percentage the rears are?

Up to you if you do it but be prepared to waste your money, any tint on the front and you get pulled you will be told to peel it off there and then. You can guarantee that u will get pulled over within a week of having it done

I've had my fronts with a light tint on for about 2 years without any issue

I went legal for the windscreen just for the sun protection but went 50% on both driver and passenger windows. That's illegal in UK but its not very dark. 35% probably matches the rear windows on a f32.

this is with 50% tint on the front side windows. It's illegal to have this level of tint in the UK but I might go a little darker as its still quite light.

Police here have recently been going a lot more strict on this - you get pulled over for it and your car is declared unroadworthy and dangerous for use - basically you have to have it recovered on a low loader (it can't even be on tow), and once the tint is removed you have to have it low loader-ed to the police workshops for inspection before they will allow it to be declared road legal again.

I'm still surprised (although I shouldn't be really!) that so many tinting companies will still tint front windows in this country.

I'm sorry but the legislation / guidance surrounding this is pretty clear cut if you excuse the pun. What people fail to understand is that factory glass has a slight tint already (despite how it may look), so applying any tint over this glass (foreward of the B pillar) is highly likely to take it over the legally accepted limits for light transmission.

So, either live with the 'van' look or don't bother with tints.

I'm going to put my neck out here and state that there have been deaths in this country caused by heavy tints on front side windows, I'll be blunt and say people who disregard the legislation and tint their front side windows are putting their own safety and that of others in jeopardy.

For disclosure, I did have front tints many years ago (when it was permitted) - my tints were carried out by Pentagon. Then the law changed as a result of a high profile case following the death of a motorcyclist (think it was 2003/2004?) and Pentagon contacted all their customers offering to remove the front tints (free of charge) or get a discount on their clear safety film being applied. We opted for the tint removal as it felt to be the right thing to do. #rantover

Pretty sure your insurance cover is at risk too if you tint any of the glass beyond the light transmission levels.

I might have passed the legal limit but as you can see in the photo, there's plenty of light coming though to see inside

Doesn't make a difference once they test it - you know its illegal and so do they. The rules aren't made to be broken, as above, there is a safety issue in doing this, so that's on you.

Im sure your insurance will be voided too - or have you declared it?!

You're coming across as quite preachy. There's a safety issue with speeding. I'm sure you don't speed with your remapped car seeing as the rules aren't made to be broken...

My remap is declared and I'm fully insured. Have you declared your tints?

If I get caught speeding then yes, that's illegal as I've broken the law.

@Armaan may be taking advantage of the potential efficiency benefits of a remap. You have no evidence that he speeds or indeed, intends to speed. However, you have consciously broken the law, publicly posted about it and seem quite content to consider pushing further beyond the laws. Anyway, two wrongs don’t make a right. Yeah I'm sure the remap is to be used legally and in no way more dangerous than the tint on my windows.

What is staggering is your inability to see, or acknowledge, anything wrong with your current illegal window tinting or your consideration to stray further from the law. Your view is so, excuse the pun, tinted, that you don’t realise that the window tinting company can also be liable by the tinting law not just you.
You also seem to fail to recognise that tinted windows can be used as evidence towards a charge of careless or dangerous driving, which can further intensify the penalties.

Instead, you seem to want to justify your contempt of the law by hypothesising how another forum member might be breaking the law even though there is zero evidence to suggest they are.

I don’t know Armaan so I’ve no reason to support him but rather than take a self righteous stance on the subject why not look at your own actions and consider how they may affect others. Not saying it’s a very high probably but think about if it was your son or daughter who killed in an accident because someone wanted their car to look cool.
