Had car 1 week, already crease in front bumper...

So I just got my 435i M Sport only 1 week ago and it already looks like someone ran a shopping cart into it or something. It has a good 3-inch-or-so vertical crease/dent in the front bumper. Is there anything that can be done to repair this, short of replacing the entire front bumper? It’s so frustrating that I had my last car for 6 years with no issues and within a week of getting a new one, this happens. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ouch

My car is trashed on the out side from people. I will have to take it to a shop to have them fix everything.

Talk to a good paintless dent repair shop - I'm sure they see this all the time. Might be able to do something using heat.

Seconded on paintless dent removal; it may be possible.

Is it possible to do on the plastic bumper? Anybody have any idea how much it might cost?

If not it can be filled and painted just like metal, the difference being you use a special 3M filler made just for filling plastic parts instead of bondo.

I'm with you! I had 3 (three) mysterious creases on my door just 4 weeks after picking up the car!! I was so depressed! Went to BMW - only thing they could offer was repainting the whole door! Gladly Paintless Dent Removal helped take 99% of the damage out (to an extend where you need to know to be able to see).
How and if it works on plastic - I am not sure, but unlike me, you have spot-repair as an option too! So see what PDR can do for you and Plan B - spot-repair.

P.s. I see you have some minor damage on the lower part as well but barely noticeable, at least on the photo.

I also agree with those who said...paintless dent removal first. See what they say first before you are it to a body shop. If they were able to take a dent out of my hood from a flying golfball then maybe they can do the same for you. Its fixable one way or another...

Hi,

Sorry to revive an old post but what was the verdict? Similar thing happened on the rear bumper of my car after 2 weeks of ownership.

Did you manage to get PDR done?

I saw an episode of Wheeler Dealers where a body shop used heat to repair a rear bumper. Paintless dent is basically using a pointed metal tool to worked out metal dents/dings. Not sure Urethane, plastic bumpers work the same way.

Thanks for the response. Went to my local bodyshop and was told the same thing. So I will be asking them to fix my bumper

PDR is only good on metal or aluminum. Damage to bumper covers *might* be minimized with heat, but then you risk damaging the paint. Removing a pushed in bumper cover using heat works well, but there might be remnants of the damage left behind as the urethane takes on a new shape. It's best to remove the large bumper dents soon after they happen. A small crease will remain, even after using heat.

This I just absolutely horrible!! I hate that this has happened to you. So I have had my car almost 2 months and I get nervous every time I get in it to go somewhere. When I get to my car I always do a walk around to check it. Sounds paranoid, but my car is a custom ordered beauty. Only one other car in my city has this color. It is a bad shame and I think it is plain jealousy and also just nasty people being destructive out of carelessness.

That's bad luck
Our M4 also had a dent in the middle of the front bumper, after jacking up, just a small accident. But then this was our own fault. I find these bumpers somewhat sensitive compared to older cars!

I do the exact same thing. I guess it is normal

It is a shame though, I am always very careful as to where i park, like if I go to the supermarket i would park at the far end away from everyone else. I now have front and rear dash cam with a very sensitive g-sensor.

I agree 100%. Had a significant ding on my wife's new Cadillac ( thankfully not my 440i) and I called one of the painless dentist repair places, he came down and within 20 minutes I could not tell there was ever a mark on the car. And it only cost $50.00. I mean this was a HUGE, sharp ding. A good PDR guy can do miracles.
