Hey guys! I need to replace the bushing in my power steering rack and can't get it out with just an adjustable spanner wrench. There is a tool that is designed to loosen it (ms00084) but theyre all over seas and won't ship for over a month. Does anyone have one that they could sell me or I could borrow. Thanks in advance!

Go to Harbor Freight or Northern Tool and pick up a grinder adjustable wrench

I saw this one but it's in the UK and I live in the states. My car sounds like it's falling apart over bumpy roads so I need it quickly

I am in the same exact situation .I'm from NY .. Car sounded like it has loose suspensions , I checked everything and even replaced my End Links thinking that was the issue ( i only have 9k miles ! ) .. then after more research it became evident that I have the steering rack knocking issue. I tried using the spanner as well ..not enough torque , try making my own tools too .. didn't work. so Finally I just went and order the tool yesterday .... from all the reading, Car is safe to drive but just annoying ! Once I get the tool I will try to tighten it first before changing the Thrust as I'm concern that I might mess up the amount of thrust play in the rack because the official way to do it you will need the whole Measuring tool kit

PS. got a friend working as tech at BMW Service and he said they don't have the tools either, my guess is that BMW would change the whole rack

This is the Video how Newtis recommend doing it

Ended up just making my own by drilling some holes in a big washer and putting some small bolts through that lined up with the holes in the threaded cover on the rack. Welded a nut on top to put a wrench on and it worked perfect.

I replaced the piece with the BMW power steering rack repair kit. No issues so far with alignment after.

I also replaced my thrust bushing with the BMW kit. I did mine about 4 months ago I'd say and I have had no issues so far, the steering doesn't feel any different and the alignment was still on for me. the new bushing made my noise go away so it definitely was worn. i made my own tool with a piece of metal and drilled holes to match the rack piece. used a bolt with 2 nuts in each hole and cranked away.

Got the tool and replaced the Thrust, While It fixed the knocking sound test when turning the steering wheel while car is off. It However did not fix my knocking issue when going over uneven roads or bumps !!! Arrrg ... I'm thinking it might be my damper , either needs replacement or needs software update which some say fixes the issue ... car only has 9k miles on it

Any suspension mods? First thing to check is sway bar end link. With only 9k I highly doubt a dampener or strut mount

No mods. Car is stock. Endlink is the first thing I replaced even though it was still in good shape and That wasn't it. I read many folks from UK fixed it with software update specific to DHP dampers. I will take it to dealer and hopefully my Geico MBI will come in handy

update : I finally found the problem for my case!! went under the car again and found that one of my brake retaining clip was put on backwards (my own mistake) , so pads had plays in them. It was really hard to pin point because it sounded like it was coming from under the car rather than from the wheels.

How unpossible would this make your steering feel.

It didn't affected my steering at all. It just sounded like I have a loose suspension or like a baseball knocking around underneath the car when going over small bumps

For those with the older racks that have the 17mm top bolt instead of the three pronged tool on the repair kit, don't bother trying to install it. There is maybe a 5mm difference in diameter between the older and newer steering rack thrust piece cavity. Thankfully the kit and lubricant wasn't that expensive. Only option for the oldest models is a replacement rack.
