Angry

2,000 miles into owning my CPO 428i and I'm already experiencing a recurring issue where without warning, the engine overheat warning comes on and my car automatically goes into limp mode. It's happened twice but the issue always seems to happen when I'm sitting in traffic. Going to either get it towed or roll the dice and bring it into service at a time when traffic is minimal but does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? Fan? Water Pump? Weather has been mild both times this has happened and regardless shouldn't be a factor with a car like this period.

On a side note, this is my first BMW and while I absolutely love the car this issue along with a fuel pump recall and this new marriage is off to a rocky start.

Oil Temps were higher than normal but only around 250. Maybe its the coolant but the car is so newly pruchases you'd think they would have checked thay beforehand.

Good call, I will check. Just would have assumed an indicator would have notified me that my coolant was low.

Is your A/C working? It could be your electric fan which is why you are overheating in traffic.

Let us know what the problem was!

Let us know how it goes, if you need a Service Place I recommend Park Ave BMW or Tenafly in NJ. (Loaners available) and in NYC i really don't know maybe smithf32 or Crashnbrn5 can recommend a good Service Rep/BMW dealership to take it into.

No, nothing sounds out of the ordinary but I suspect it could be a fan issue as the engine seems to cool down when I'm on the highway but when I'm moving slower and there's less wind running through it heats up.

I'm out of town for a few days but will let you guys know the outcome shortly. Appreciate the dealership reco's.

Checked the engine coolant today and the tank was full so that's ruled out as the cause. Can't help but think this may have something to due with the fuel pump recall/replacement as this issue started happening almost immediately after it was replaced.

Scheduled service for this week. Stay tuned!

Turns out it was a faulty fan which I guess explains why the car was overheating in traffic when no air was freely flowing through. Anyway, car seems to be fine now. Thought it was much worse!
