Truecar prices

Hey there,

I got a price through Truecar and by contacting each dealership separately, I'm going to go down there tomorrow to talk shop. Can anybody give me any advice on negotiating pricing? any idea on how flexible the truecar prices are?

I will be doing the whole euro delivery deal if that makes any difference, it seems the price is a bit lower and it looks like good fun. This will be a purchase, not a lease. Funds already secured. I have roughly 6 months to find my next car, so I'm in no hurry.

Thanks in advance.

Generally, if you negotiate hard, you can get better deal than what TrueCar offers.

Source: Heard that from TrueCar CEO, they used to show much lower prices but it got them in trouble with dealers.

335xi 7grand off MSRP provided I had every option available on the car so I wouldn't expect it on a base model.

A quick and dirty way to get to invoice pricing is to take the total price and take off 7%. That's a "back of the envelope" way of going about it since that's the typical mark up.

Then do additional research as to what the fees are and how much they SHOULD be. Dealers tend to mark those up to varying degrees too.

I personally negotiated invoice using a similar method plus $200 less incentives so at the time I got it for $1,020 below invoice when all was said and done. Dealers are reimbursed by the manufacturer for any wide spread incentive program they have going on.

Sometimes dealers may have incentives that they themselves are doing, if that's the case then you won't be able to have them use incentives to get you below invoice unless they're desperate for the sales numbers.

I've historically used edmunds. Costco isn't bad either (they have a special car purchasing program with various manufacturers, including BMW, the special "members price" they give you tends to be invoice...or very close to it).
