No such thing. There is not two releases. There is only 2019. Next will be 2020.

I have the 6UP "navigation plus" head unit and the maps are updated OTA. My car has 2018-1 base map. The update is 2019-1. Is there any advantage to updating the base map? If so, are the maps being discussed in this thread applicable to this head unit? Thanks.

Thanks for a quick reply shawnsheridan, but the map update package on BMW ConnectedDrive costs $45 USD, so your $50 proposal is totally not worth it.

It may be less than that now, you would have to ask seller, but either way, it's cheap to update it.
