DIY - Led Fog (F32 to F30) Install Only!!

Hello all, I have read through the posts regarding install and coding for LED fog light, but I missed the install DIY, I did this over this weekend and wanted to share.......these are F32 lights, I am putting on my F30, I tried to find some specifically for F30 with no luck.

YES, I know my car is dirty.....

On the scale of 1-10 (10 being don't do it) this is a 3-4 only because of me removing the wheels.

parts:

Fog Lights
63 17 7 315 559
63 17 7 315 560

Tools;
T25 torx driver

I decided to remove my front wheels to take photos and have better access...
Just the new light with part #

Here you see the wheel has been removed and shows the small bolts to be removed to gain access. The arrow shows the location of one more bolt out of the picture frame.
You are doing this to move the fender liner out of the way.

This shows the location of the two screws(T25) holding the light in place, remove them, then disconnect the wire harness.

the following just shows the difference between the lights

Plug wiring harness in the new light, install, and secure with the two screws and put car back together. The passenger side is the same no unexpected surprises other than a dead bug or two.

I suppose you could do this without removing the wheels, by just taking off the grill in front of the fog lights(it just pulls off), and using a mirror to visualize the two mounting screws, it just needs a little more patience.

Final result.....

.....sit back and enjoy your hard work. Don't forget to code, there are so many threads for coding it did not make any sense to add my coding to this post.
You are doing this on your own, use my post only as a guide, your car may be different.....GOOD LUCK

Great job. I was hoping this was to add to an M Sport, but strong work nonetheless

Thanks for the DIY!

I did that mod in February.
This also works with the wheel mounted. Just go full lock to the left when doing the driver side (other side vice versa).
With the wheel in place, you can tug the fender liner behind the wheel, just like you did with the brake disc.

When putting the new LED fog in place, I found it useful to pull up on the mount. It might not slip into place easily (it didn't with my M-Sport bumper, there was a gap), but when you pull up from the inside, the fog will find its way.

This looks so much better than the yellow fogs. Plus, the cornering lights still work with the LED, which is a bonus.
Just code everything to 100%, otherwise they will start to flicker after a few seconds!

Hey guys,

I'm thinking about ordering the fogs, however I just wanted to check that you guys did the same coding as this guy

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...5&postcount=45

Please let me know if different. The reason I ask is because there seems to be so many different variances of the coding, it would be helpful if we had just one set of coding we should go by to avoid flickering.

That is the coding I used, not sure if I followed that exact one....like you said there are so many threads with the same/similar coding, which is a good thing because at least a lot of users want to post/help others on here.....

Yes I know the new light looks bigger in the photo, it is but not by much, there is more than enough room in the area.

Plug wiring harness in the new light, install, and secure with the two screws and put car back together. The passenger side is the same no unexpected surprises other than a dead bug or two.

thanks for your work I was wondering where did you order the fogs from and how much did they cost? thinking of doing this

Well, fingers crossed... about 2 weeks till my Fog Lights arrive! My dealer said they can install the lights as a favor no problem, so means all I have to do on my end is code as usual. I just hope that coding doesn't disable the cornering function as some people reported.

Question - Does the lights fade on and off or is it hard on and off? Also how's the lighting output compared to the stock halogen fogs?

I ordered a set from ECS Tuning, they're $140~ each, so $280 for the set + shipping.

The cornering function works for me.
The lights still fade on and off, but fading is not as 'soft' as with the halogen fogs.

Lighting is better than halogen, much wider although not further.

Will this work on a 328D drive with normal halogen lights?

Hi all,

Can someone who is having a F32 tell me what values the following parameters have:
MAPPING_NEBELSCHW_L_PWM_LEVEL_1
MAPPING_ABBIEGEL_L_PWM_LEVEL_1

I'm asking because I was told that I have to code 100%
The problem is that I don't have 100% available in the drop down menue, so I need to know the HEX value that is coded in the factory, or better, the Voltage that has to be set for the LED fogs.
According to the coding range (see screenshot) 100% = 14V = 8C hex
According to a Friend (with a F30), who has 100% in the drop down menue the hex value is 64 when he chooses 100 % . This corresponds to 10V according to the coding range.
Attached you can find a screenshot of my parameters.

I'm scared that I' using a too high voltage to operate the fog lights.
I'm really confused now and the only thing that might bring light into this is the value set in a F32 (that has the LED fog lights as default).
I hope somebody can help me in this regard.

Many thanks in advance.
Greetings Roland

Now I'm really confused.

86h means 13,4V. According to the Coding rules this is 95,7%

Can anybody have a look into the settings of a F32 please? Many Thanks.

Greetings

You don't need to change voltage to have LED fog lights working correctly.

It would be great to get a screen shot where the hex value and the coding range can be seen (see jpg attached).

I'm asking because I coded 100% = 14V (according to the coding range) and now the LED fog lights are flickering after 30 seconds. It seems that 14 volts are too high.

Many thanks in advance.

You do realize that the werte value is independent of the voltage the light gets right?

Sorry, but that's simply not correct! The HEX Value is NOT the percentage value! (coding range is 0-100% and 0-14V)

Do the math:
86hex = 134dec = 13,4V

Please, just post something if you are really sure about it.
Many thanks!

Sorry bout that, was actually going to look into it.

WELL I CAME TO A DIFFERENT CONCLUSION THOUGH!

I get an option for 100% in my dropdown list... which = hex 64 as always.

I'll post a screen once I upload it from my laptop.

EDIT - here we go.
