Fitting M2, M3, M4 paddle shifters to my F36
So i've been looking into a few mods to keep me entertained over lock down 2.0 and like the idea of replacing the paddle shifters on my F36 for something a bit more sporty.
I've had a search but haven't managed to find much info on this forum on this, but found a few YouTube videos where people have fitted M2/M3/M4 paddle shifters to their F series cars. I think the paddles look really good and like the idea of OEM+ The part comes with it own electronics in the paddle (61317847610) but have also seen people swap the electronics over from their old paddles ... makes more sense after watching this YouTube video. My question is, can I just fit the M2/M3/M4 paddle shifter as a direct swap, or does the electronic need to be swapped over from original paddles?

As NISFAN said, if you buy genuine paddles they're quite straightforward to swap and getting the front and back trim makes a big difference. I haven't bothered with the paddles, but I have done the trim. I managed to pick an M2 trim up for £55 and a brand new rear trim was £50. The going rate for the front trim is around £140, I think I was lucky.

I bought a set of genuine M3/4 paddles via eBay for £100 (paddles, switches, wires, connected tor's) and fitted them myself.
It's more of a fiddly job rather than outright difficult. Releasing the airbag clips took me a while, as did tucking the wiring into the narrow pathways. They feel much better than the non-M paddles - the rear surface is much better angled for the fingertips to operate them easily. It's a good mod.

Yep easy peasy. I swapped them on my F36, along with the wheel and M trim

The M one has the divided spoke with aluminium centre piece. The rest is proper nappa leather covered. In contrast, the M Sport trim is all plastic. |

Will the M 3 steering trim fit the M sport steering? Does the standard M sport steering have a gap ito allow you to see through the M3 steering?

I went for the G series paddles instead of the M ones - also a direct swap
Would also recommend getting the M trim, looks great imo Ignore the screen, I cleaned it with the wrong stuff haha |

I've got same G series paddles....duh of course I've got a G31. Not a big fan of them, not very solid feels like cheap plastic. My mothers face-lifted Seat Ateca has nicer feeling paddles.

Cheers for all the replies and useful info. Ended up picking up some genuine M4 paddles and electronics on eBay, fitted this morning.
Looks really good, much nicer and sporty looking than the original paddles. Really easy to fit, just followed THIS guide to remove the air bag and take the paddles off.
