Thinking about buying a 2015 plus 328i or a 2017-2018 330i

Hey guys I am planning on buying my first car soon and I am thinking about a f30 3 series. Reason why I am swaying away from ore 2015 ones is the timing chain issue. Is there any other problems that I need to worry about. I keep on hearing bmw horror stories about a random couple thousand dollar repairs, which I am not really ready for, but most of those people owner previous generation with a lot of known problems.

Curiously, last time their was a crash, used cars went up in price because nice trade-ins were scarce (because new car purchases dropped so much).

So perhaps used car prices will go up (although new will likely go down).

The 328i timing chain issue is pretty rare, BMW has some additional coverage for the known issue. The newer 330i appears to have less issues and slightly more power plus you get the LCI newer version. Rather than let fear guide your decision, let the color, options and packages. I absolutely love the M-Sport package but it is expensive. My must haves are:
  • #1: Sport Seats (Found on M-Sport or Sport)
  • Premium Package (hands free entry, sunroof, etc)
  • Lighting Package (those great roundel eyes in the headlights)
  • Sport or M-Sport (Great seats, 18" wheels, various visual upgrades)
  • HK Sound (Harmon Kardon Sound)

RWD is a much better driver, especially with Sport Suspension! Be patient and Good luck!

Thing is I am planning on buying this within a year like in a year or so as a graduation gift to myself. Also do the f30 four cylinder models have reliability issues besides the timing chain on the n20?

Well I have N26. .. like you, timing chain is all I hear about and always mention engine build before 2015. So as everyone say get a 2015 and up. Gotta check the VIN for build date. I just keep an eye and an ears on mine. So far my 2016 F36 at 36k miles with no problem( always knock on wood when talking about this).

If you can find 2017 to 18 330i, that's probably a better choice.

Yeah man thnx for the reply, have another question for you. How good is this cars handling I keep on hearing how f39 steering feel is shit, me I love feeling every bump on the road ik it's weird af. I was gonna get a ft86 but then said fuck it cuz like it would be too inconvenient and also I really don't wanna drive a manual in traffic, I would never buy that car in auto. But yeah back to my question how's the steering feel on this?
