Missing increased top speed limiter on 2018 build order with 21W 19in wheels

I am in the process of ordering a 2018 340i M Sport with newly available 21W 19" M Orbit Grey Double-Spoke Wheels Style 704 M with Mixed
Performance Tires
(19x8.0, 255/40 R19 front and 19x8.5, 255/35 R19 rear)

On the 2018 3 series order guide.pdf there is no indicator the 840/increased top speed limiter is included(it is however noted on the 4 series order guide)

the 19in 403 wheels have this specifically stated.

My build order from the dealer with status 112 does not specifically list 840/increased top speed limiter.
Also it does not have ZRT/remove top speed limiter on the build order.

Anyone else experience this on new 2018 build.
Not sure it really matters as I will never go anywhere near that speed but still...

my 4 series build order is 112 status and has it listed as "840 Increased top speed limiter N/C"

neal, I have Track Handling (+ M Sport) and 21W wheels on my 440ix order and it includes 840/increased top speed limiter. It sounds like a BMW Genius question to assure you get that on your 3er order.

on the 4 series ordering guide it explicitly states the 840 is added with 21W

on the 3 series ordering guide there is no indication, its really weird. My CA has no idea and is looking into it

I may just go back to 18in wheels given the slightly better ride, less risk of curb rash and hopefully the tires will last longer

I like the 403 wheels as well but I am hesitant on 19in wheels and the ride quality. There are times on my 428 vert the 18in runflats suck, can't image how 19in wheels with RFT would be.

I topped out at about 153 on the Autobahn with the 840 option on my 440xi, so I'm going to say that 155 is roughly where the limiter is.

Mine seems to be missing the increased top speed limiter

I just (September 22nd) picked up my Alpine White 340i, with Aluminum Dark Carbon trim, 19" Orbit Grey wheels and Track Handling Package. I just went beyond the 1200miles mark to be allowed to go past the recommended 100mph (and 4500rpm). To my surprise, it did NOT go beyond ~125mph. So before seeing your post, I did send my CA an email about this.

Do any of you know if I can just go to a BMW dealer over here in Germany for it to be increased, as it should be included by default?

Here are some pics of the car if interested

My understanding is the top speed should be 135 without option 840. I?m surprised your car topped out at 125

I never got an answer from anybody BMW about this issue. I have no idea why these particular wheels resulted in not having 840 on the option list

UPDATE: I did verify the top speed to actually be 130mph (could not see 135mph though), and not 125mph as I previously thought. By the time I posted 125mph, I only had one chance to go at that speed. After that, yesterday I was able to top it at 130mph several times, confirming now that 130 is the top limit of my car without the 840 option.

My CA and I think the 840 option should have been set by default. We are waiting for info from BMW NA.

Please keep us informed. I would love to get that fixed but my understanding is it may not be correctable since it was not done at the factory

I never understood why 840 Was not listed on the build order. My dealership contacted BMW of North America with no help. There was never even a response

Im guessing you have more than 10 hrs or run time? I believe if you have less than 10 hours of run time you can change the limiter and power class before it get locked out. Thats what I have read about the 320/328 at least.

Run time ?? I have owned my car for 6 weeks

BMW is disappointing at how unresponsive they have been.

This should be correctable in my humble opinion at anytime

nealh,
How do you like your wheels and tires? You stuck with the 19 inch I assume? Are you happy with the ride on 19 inch runflats?

Yes I opted to keep a 19 inch wheels. The ride on the 2018 340i with the 19 inch wheels and run flats is excellent. The ride was more harsh on my 2014 428i convertible. The steering was a little tighter feeling on the 428.

Overall ride quality is more pleasant and comfortable on the 340i

19 inch run flats on the 340i compared to the 18 inch run flats on the 428 have a much more comfortable ride and I don?t feel the bumps same way, even a smooth road could sometimes be a little harsh on the 428

I do think the 340i Steering feel could be a little tighter but overall I love the car and the slightly better comfort

My concern for a ride quality on the 19 inch run flats at least in the Tampa area around Florida was unwarranted. Our roads have some rough areas but not a lot of potholes

In my case, I also have the 19" wheels, but also have the Adaptive M Suspension. In Comfort mode I think it is very comfortable on rough roads. In Sport mode it tightens, and feels very good when cornering and when going at high speed. Don't know if it would be good to know, but it's also a 6MT.

I'm very happy with these wheels and ride!

I have the adaptive M suspension as well. I still think in sport mode it could be a little tighter and higher speeds.
In comfort mode The suspension is exactly the way I would like it. Tight but not harsh

I have the static 704 sport suspension with 18" non run flats. I really like it. It really does it for me as a daily. It could be a little firmer with no complaints, but I certainly put the handling and planted feel ahead of comfort. Plus I have pretty decent roads through my normal driving.

The 18" runflats were not nearly as good, although much better than the suspension and runflats I had on my '09 E82. I did not like the suspension or tires on that car.
