16" or 17" wheels for my MINI

Hi All,

I know this is not the right forum however you guys are so helpful so couldn't resist.

My brand new MINI will be arriving on the 4th July and it comes with 16" black victory alloys, I have been told by the dealr if I wanted to upgrade the wheels to 17" cosmos. Its a good offer however I am just wondering that will the upgrade make the ride harsh considering its MINI already? Will it effect the feul economy? What will you if it was your car?

Need aome help please.

Saurabh

On my old Cooper S the ride was definitely firmer on 17" than others I tried with 16" wheels, albeit a bit grippier. These days I would say go with the 17s for look and grip but ditch the runflats for some Michelin Pilot Super Sports and the ride should actually be better than on the 16s.

We used to have Mini Cooper on 16" alloys and the ride was incredibly hard, not so nice around London. I'd say it's a lot firmer than on our E91 MSport and the current F31 on Sports setting.

We've now got 4 new Minis in the company so think I can pass comment.

The 17's are absolutely fine. They shouldn't be runflats unless specifically optioned (in which case try your hardest to get non runflat ones).

Look much better, better resale and handling is tighter yet ride is fine.

It is what we like to call a 'no brainer'.

I agree with you on that. I think MINI looks great on 17". I was just worried about the ride quality and yes I am not too keen on runflats anyway.

Just make sure you ask. Makes a big difference.

17 non run flats is the way I'd go. Currently running that combination on our 2010 Cooper S and it's fine.

We went for the 16" Loop Spoke alloys on my wife's mini. Ride is firmer than my F30 in sport mode on 19's. But, suited to the character of the car.

I had 17" run-flats on mine. The ride was hard. Non run flats would probably be better. But it's a Mini, you're not far off the ground.
