New Windscreen Needed
Sure this has been covered before,
A well known haulage company dumped part of its load luckily just on to my windscreen. They apparently out of good will pay for a repair, however the chap came to carry out the repair and said "its a crater mate" beyond repair so needs a new windscreen. Said haulage company said they will only pay for my excess which I believe is still a claim against my insurance? Also OEM is Pilkington, any issues, or is there a better preference and why. Thanks in advance .

I have had a few windscreens replaced and had to declare it as a claim. Doesn't seem to affect the amount payable though. Same with repaired windscreens.

Yes you claim on your insurance but it doesn't go against your no claims and doesn't affect your premium. You just give your insurance company and policy number to the windscreen company and they do everything else. Usual policy excess is around £75. I used Autowindscreens last year and they were very good if a little slow.

Some insurance companies count glass claims as normal claims when it comes to taking out a new policy (hence confused.com etc asking about glass claims when you get quotes).
If the haulage firm has caused the damage, it needs to come out of their pockets/their insurance co, NOT yours.

The haulage company has already admitted liability by offering to pay the excess. IMO this isn't acceptable and they should settle the entire bill.

Unfortunately not, I did inquire My dealer was asking £930 and not exactly fitted via them, apparently the get in a specialist read a few reviews from the local branch and all seems good explained I will be a fussy customer. he said no worries he also has a BMW.
Only time will tell.
