Question on NBT_HU retrofit

I'm reading a little bit about FSC codes rather than using an emulator. Can anyone shed some light on that, or should I just do the emulator like the guide shows? Is the GPS antenna in the shark fin? So far I have the NBT HU, 8.8 screen, and a shark fin/antenna. I don't plan to use a touch controller. Any info is appreciated so I can finish buying the parts I need!
