SOS emergency call malfunction... best way to get to battery?

Evening!

I just started to get SOS Emergency call malfunction messages, and going into ista it looks like the battery needs replacement. Now, I've looked around, and I'm thinking mine is in the roof, does anyone have experience replacing this that could give a few tips on how to get to it? Most of the guides I've seen, including TIS just says drop the panel and it's very non descriptive.

I have a 2016 428i (f36).

I just don't want to rip something out or take apart more than needed.

Thanks!!

Did you ever find any info on this? I'm only finding guides for 3 series models which have a convenient plastic cover.

My apologies I never followed up on this post!

So I had to take out both rear pillars, and pull down the headliner from the back, from there I could see the unit, and the battery tucked into it. From there I was able to get it out and replace with a new one. It was a pain, and room was tight but I think it was better than pulling the entire headliner down. Stupid that they put a battery there.

This is an F36 correct? On my 2015 F36 the battery seems to be easily accessible under the tray in the trunk.

Interesting. Mine is a 2016 435i xDrive. I think I'll pull up the trunk tray first and see if it's there before messing with the headliner.
